I was at the old opera house in Galveston yesterday watching my 9 year old do her ballet performance. During the intermission, I went to grab a bag of M&M's and some water from the snack bar in the lobby. I went to pay, and I saw a sign that basically said "The licensed or un-licensed possession of a firearm in a facility that serves alcohol is a felony, and carries a fine of $10,000"
It was printed on an 8x10 sheet, and did not have any reference to 51% or 30.06. There were no other postings anywhere else (front doors, stage entrance, etc)
Is this one of those you just carry and ignore and not make a stink about it?

It's an obsolete sign. I wonder where they are getting these things.
There's no way the Grand 1894 Opera House is a 51% location, when tickets to events cost $50 or more.

This sign is just legalese for" if you have a CHL please exercise your 2nd amendment rights"

It looked like the sign pre-dated IKE. It was the only one anywhere in the facility. I wanted to get a pic posing by it but thought that would be a bit over the top.
Just one aside though, after dark on the strand, I was glad I was carrying. It is not the same as before Ike. I really don't know how viable the area is now. The last time I was there was pre-Ike, and the area looks bad compared to where it was before the storm.
My dad, who is also a CHL asked if I was carrying after the show while we walked to the parking lot. Lot's of "sketchy" people about.

Nothing on the first floor of the Grand is pre-Ike. The place had at least 8 feet of water in it.
Post Office Street between 20th and 22nd is the heart of Galveston's night life. There might be some homeless people circulating there, but they're just bums. You want to be careful of the streets where everything is closed after dark.

The concession stand is "1st and a half" floor and was not underwater. The lady who gave me the tour said that the pit area, and all of undergrownd was flooded, and most of the lower seats. All of the windows had new casings through-out. They have done a really good job bringing the Opera house back. I just wonder about the long term prospects for the neighborhood.
The drugged out people walking the street on Sunday evening when the show let out were more obvious than in downtown Houston, where we have a sizeable homeless problem.
Keep in mind, this is from the eyes of a person who experienced Galveston pre-Ike, and this was my first experience since.
