I feel no shame about it. I'm a Texan now.

I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, went to college on the Central Coast, came back for work and then work moved me here. I'm still a fairly new Texan but I do like it here...despite also missing my home state.

I was born there at Fort Ord, but only because my dad was drafted and my mom went to
visit about due date. We returned HOME to Dallas when I was about a year old-ish.

Re: ROLL CALL---Former Kalifornians!
My father was in military, and loved getting assigned to bases in Sacramento when he wasn't overseas in Vietnam or Thailand, so half my childhood was in CA. I graduated from high school there and enlisted in the military...and never returned. I made Texas my home after getting out of the military and my parents were quick to follow. I consider myself lucky enough to be a "recovered liberal," having been victimized by repeated brainwashings of the California school system. Sadly, none of my high school friends ever got out of "The Government Knows What's Best For Me Abyss." I mourn for them.

Dad was military, and I was born on the base just north of San Fran-sicko. Got to Texas as fast as I could tho.

Re: ROLL CALL---Former Kalifornians!
With the exception of college in the mid 1970s at UTEP and Texas A&M, I've lived most of my life in California. I moved here from Pasadena in April of 2006.

Seventh-generation Texan here, but spent a tad over 10 years in Kalifornia. I'm willing to visit, though I'll never live there again.

Re: ROLL CALL---Former Kalifornians!
Neither will I. I have to go back once in a while to visit family. They're all too strapped by the California economy to come visit me. I'm going back sometime between now and the end of the year to help my mom get moved out of her house, and haul some of her furniture back to Texas for our house. But the sooner I get back across the Texas border, the happier I'll be.Skiprr wrote:Seventh-generation Texan here, but spent a tad over 10 years in Kalifornia. Pretty close to my story, Skiprr. I'm a sixth generation Texan. I spent 17 years in Kalifornia. And during those 17 years, I never, ever thought of Kalifornia as home. Six years after marrying williamkevin, he agreed to go on an adventure to bring me home to Texas. It was the best impulse decision we've ever made. I miss some of the places out there, but not much else.
