Address change question?

Post by Texas_Tactical »

I got my CHL at my previous residents and I moved to my current residents about two months ago. I haven't done a change of address because I didnt think about it until about a month ago. Well heres the catch Im moving again on june 18th(in the same city).

Question is should I wait until I move again to change my address? or should I go ahead and apply for change of address with the new address on there? (me moving is a 100% sure thing)

The only reason why I ask is because I dont know what would be better and I dont what to run the risk of having it revoked.

The law says (If I remember correctly) that you have 30 days to change your CHL and DL.
As June 18th is just a month away from now, can see your issue, change now just to change about the time it will come in.

As far as changing your address, now, to your June 18th address, I would not do yet, just in case they come in prior to your move in date. This mail from DPS, cannot be forwarded so it would only be returned to DPS.
And a 2nd reason, even though you say "100%", things do change, therefore one may never know.

Personally, I think I would 'take the chance' and not do anything yet.
If i were stopped and asked "is this your current address", my answer would be no. If the officer does the standard follow up questions of "how long have you not lived there", I would probably lie and say "I just moved last weekend", and once I moved on June 18th, I would do my change of address very promptly.

I am not a lawyer, and I normally am not a proponent of lying to a Police Officer, but this is one of those very rare circumstances that just may need to be done.

I don't suggest breaking the law, but you're already past the 30 day grace period.

If you're moving in next month with a roommate who is already there, the easiest thing may be to change your address now. Otherwise I would wait until the middle of June.

However, that's what I would do and it isn't advice.

I would definitely not lie to a cop. I'll probably just wait until I move.

Probably wouldnt but ive already done a change of address on my Drivers License. I done a COA on my DL and then I found out I was moving a few days later before I done my CHL.

Address change question?

Post by lindafell »

What do you do about an address change if you have a pending CHL application and are moving before your license will be issued? Will it get forwarded and then you change your address or should you try to contact DPS and get it changed while your application is pending? My husband is waiting for his renewal that he sent in at the same time as my initial application so he is in the same boat.

Thanks,
Linda

I think the standard advice is to send them a letter with your info and your new address and if you catch them early enough they will issue your license with the new address at no additional charge. If your license has already gone to the printer, I think you have to pay the $25 fee and do a normal change of address.

My application is still pending as of today. Do you know what address to send the request to? Is it the Guadalupe Street one?
