Hardie-plank and penetration

Post by LarryH »

Is anyone aware of any studies of bullet penetration through Hardie-plank?

My curious wife would like to know.

as it's fairly thin (except trim boards), I would imagine a bullet of most any caliber
would have no problem with the penetration of cement/fiber siding. Obviously
mutiple layers might be different.

I've seen nailguns drive a nail all the way through the Hardie board. I've also seen it shattered with a single hammer blow. I wouldn't consider it good cover. Now, concrete filled cinder blocks that's a wall of a different construction.

The way to cut HardiePlank if you don't want to spend the $$$ on a carbide-tipped saw blade is to score it with a knife and then break it over your knee. So yeah, I'm fairly sure even a 22LR would go through it like butter.
