renewal time frame

Hello kind and patient forum members. I know I've seen these requirements before but now I can't find them and would appreciate it if you could answer this question yet again.

Dear Sweet Wife's license expires September 2, 2010. My license expires June 26, 2011. We would like to take the renewal class together. Can't I go ahead and take the course then hold onto the paperwork until I get my renewal letter?
