I think it is obvious what happened here. This lady is a expert shot and she shot him in the femoral artery deliberately and shot herself in the elbow to get sympathy from the jury.

I saw some practicing retreat/shoot from contact. I try to practice this, and the number one thing to remember is to get all your body parts behind the muzzle. For someone who hasn't drilled this repeatedly, it would be easy to use the weak hand to fight while using the gun hand to shoot... and consquently shoot the weakside arm.

I try to practice this as well and can see how someone could shoot their arm on accident and/or have to shoot it on purpose. One through the hand or arm is a decision that we might have to make to save our life. I realize that nobody wants to shoot him/her self, but accpepting that it could save your life is a good mental exercise. Thanks to Charles for opening my eyes up to "getting out of the hole" in a training session a few months ago, it forced me to think about what distances a fight will likely occur.

Here's a rule of human physiology: if one arm is in contact, the other almost certainly can be.

As a practical application, that means that when your support hand is directly involved with an attacker, then your gun hand can be placed in direct contact with the attacker's vitals, especially when said gun hand gains a 2-4 inch extension.

Shooting through your own arm isn't required when you've got muzzle contact against the BG's torso.

Muzzle contact with a wheel gun isn't a bad thing, however, with a semi auto muzzle contact might take it out of battery. Not a good thing.

This just confirms my belief that gambling is merely a way to throw away money you don't really want. I have believed sice I was a youngster that gambling is a silly thing to do with hard earned money. I won't do it, and have never been able to figure out why others do.

I really do believe that the easiest way to make yourself a "mark" for the "professionals" is to be greedy and looking for the best of it yourself. It's just too hard to take advantage of an honest man.

I'm different, I'll say that right up front.

However, having said that, I can take my wife to dinner and a movie and have a great four or five hours for $100.00 ~ $150.00.

Now, my wife can drive from Ft. Worth to Shreveport and eat at a buffet, and spend $20.00. We'll then walk into one of the casino's and take $20.00 each and have fun at the quarter slots for a couple of hours and then drive home. We've just the same amount of money (including money on fuel ($60.00 round trip with's today's prices)) than we would have if we'd stayed closer to home and gone and had a nice meal and a movie.
$120.00 vs. $100.00 ~ $150.00

We've had a few hours of good conversation driving there and back, and a good meal and a bit of entertainment.

As for the money we gamble, we'd spent the same going to the movie or more for gas for the boat while fishing or for the tow vehicle pulling the RV to the camp ground.

To me spending money on cigarettes and beer is worse because those things have a direct effect upon ones physical health.

I'm not totally against gambling, as how was the scapegoat selected or how was Matthias elected?

I wouldn't spend my money on cigarettes since they have no known benefit.
However, a small amount of alcohol can have some health benefits.
I bought a bottle of wine a few years ago. I was going to see if it helped with my headaches by getting the blood to flow better, but I kept forgetting to drink it at night before bed. Oh well, so much for that. I do have a glass a few times a year with dh.

As for gambling, I saw it ruin my first step-father. I don't visit the casinos b/c they leave a bad taste in my mouth. My step-dad's unchecked behavior in this arena caused us all a lot of pain. I don't badmouth anyone for going, but I always urge them to keep their wits about them and to be careful.

As for guns, well, I don't suppose you could ever have enough of them. The same thought on holsters, as I appear to be gaining a bit of a collection. I now have more holsters than guns. (I should get a holster to go with each outfit.)
