kids and guns?

Post by loneranger4x4 »

Not sure if this is the right section, But, does anyone know how old a child needs to be in Texas to legaly shoot a firearm like a handgun or an ar-15?
I did a google search but didn't come up with any answer to my question. I am planning a project and would like to video my daughter shooting at a range. the video will be put on youtube so i would like to make sure that it is legal for an eleven year old to be allowed to shoot these guns. any help/advice you can provide will be welcome.

Texas law is silent on the issue of how old a child must be to shoot under adult supervision.

Federal law allows children to shoot with written permission of their parents. Written permission is required even if the child is on private property under adult supervision. I don't know of this absurd requirement ever being enforced.

I try to avoid being judgmental, but why would someone put a child on Youtube for the consumption of every idiot and pervert in the universe?

That's a rhetorical question.

Thanks Seamus, I guess I will have to write her a note. that is pretty absurd, I guess it's a cover yourself thing so the goverment can sleep better at night.
I have never had any problems with Perverts on youtube, now idiots on the other hand there are plenty. My daughter likes to sing so she makes videos and I put them up on youtube. she is not allowed to correspond with anyone on there, but like I said we have never had any problems. it also allows her grandparents and other relatives to see her singing.

Maybe I can ask this question here instead of starting another topic.
does anyone know of a firearms safety class offered in the deer park / pasadena area that she might be able to attend?

It's not exactly around the corner, but it's well worth the trip to Conroe or Friendswood: Send a private message to CompVest on this forum.

You can also restrict who can view the videos. I copied this from another website, so forgive me if it's not accurate.

Go to "My Account" at the top right hand screen then find "Edit your video." Go under broadcast options and choose the option that has your video be watched only by you and 25 other people. You can choose the people you want to watch the video

yeah, she has a few that we marked private, but she likes to be in the spotlight. and I try to keep the comments on her videos clean. she has almost 1000 subscribers, most of the subscribers appear to be young kids and she is not allowed to contact them. I have full control of her page.
here is one of her videos
