Another State Fair Question - Rides?

Post by Syntax360 »

Just curious how my fellow forum members reconcile the problem of carrying and rides at the fair? Fairus Wheel aside, do you just leave the pistol at home or in the car if you plan on riding anything else? I know the rides aren't too intense, and I'm not even sure what rides they have this year, but I don't know how wise it would be to trust any of my IWB holsters while being spun around and thrown through the air. Anyone test this theory or have any experience to relate, or do the guns stay grounded?

Thanks!

If going upside down on a ride will make your weapon fall out of it's holster, then I would not carry with out some sort of retention.

mousegun?

Might be a good excuse to buy a Keltec P32 or P3AT. Either one in it's wallet-size carrying pouch will not fall out of any of my pants pockets.

Othewise, you might look at a lanyard that you can clip to a belt loop?
That way if it fell out at least it wouldn't drop to the ground and cause a scene. Might slap you on the chin though ;)

I thought of throwing a snub nose or my bersa thunder in my pocket, but i'm leaning more towards my normal carry pistol in an IWB and two shirts. I figure I can tuck the undershirt into my Bladetech UCH. If I carry just off SOB, any ride should press me into the seat enough to ensure the pistol wouldn't go anywhere, and if it did, it would be stuck under my 1st shirt.

Sound feasible, or do you guys think I should stick to pocket carry?

carry on rides

If going upside down will make you lose your gun, I would change holsters! ;-)

I go from pick-up to tractor to trailer and work on the farm, etc. I think I have only lost a gun once. Actually, the NAA .22 magnum drops off my belt buckle if I am not careful when carrying a bucket or trashcan but it is more jewelry than for self defense. However, I seem to drop my cell phone on a regular basis. Maybe I should get a Kydex holster for my cell?

I used to have similar problems, jumping off boats, pickups, planes, etc. and prettty well solved the problem with a home-made lanyard. I'm thinking about getting one of the new breakaway lanyards just for the nostalgia.

In situations like that I wear my sholder holster with thumb break retention. It works well for me

I used a paddle holster with thumb break. Worked just fine.

I don't have any holsters with any kind of active retention like a thumb break.

I carried my USPc in a C-TAC and was fine. I worried about the "more intense" rides, but little did I know that the price would scare me away . It was going to cost like $40 for my girlfriend and I to take a whirl on the few rides we were half interested in, so it never became a potential problem. The fair made Six Flags look like a heck of a deal ($) - I think I'll save my money next year.
