I'm sure as hell glad this 1911 isn't my carry pistol -- for the second time in a week, the hammer lock ( http://www.taurususa.com/security-system.cfm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) has wiggled into "lock" position and left me with a non-functional pistol until I inserted their "special tool" to unlock it. This is NOT something you want to have happen during a match or when engaging bad guys.
So..."put a little Loctite on it" is not what I consider an acceptable option. I see three options here:
1) Tell Taurus to remove the safety completely. I'm curious if anybody has some something like this with them and if they're very cooperative
2) Forcibly remove the safety. It seems to have a lock to prevent that -- curious if anybody has gone down this path.
3) Replace the hammer - definitely an option, but I've never replaced a hammer on a 1911 (hey, first time for everything, eh? :) ).
Any anecdotes that anybody on here can share about their PT1911?

Re: Taurus PT1911: Hammer Safety Failure -- AGAIN!
I had to fit a thumb safety to mine, the factory unit was out of spec. As for replacing the hammer on a 1911 I would strongly suggest having a professional gun smith do this as they have the proper tools to ensure proper fit. I would sure hate to see the hammer not catch the sear and the gun go full auto. I like my PT1911, but I wish Taurus would have paid more attention to fit and finish instead of trying to add as many features as possible. Seriously who needs to have the underside of the trigger guard checkered?
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Colt, Kimber, or SA are my fave's.
On a budget I'd be happy with a RIA.
I wouldn't use Taurus for anything.
