Who Has A Kahr CW9 ?

Not having a CW9 ..BUT ... My primary CH is tha' Kahr CW40.
Carry OWB in a Galco Matrix7 holster. ( some times in a cheap Bianchi leather IWB )
With this crazy Texas weather, wearing a T shirt, cargo shorts, and my 5.11 operator belt, I'm very comfortable with this little pistol.
Get tha' CW40 ... you'll be glade ya' did !

I have, and carry a CW9. Bought it last summer, put it through the ringer on reliability testing, and decided it was a perfect, slim carry gun. In the first three months I had at least 10 guys shoot it, and 6 ladies (two of which were visiting 17 yr old French girls that had never handled firearms), and had not a single malfunction. One would think that a fairly lightweight poly framed handgun would be susceptable to "limp wrist failures", but not my CW9. I now have only 750 rounds through it (all good quality brass), and still not a single failure of any kind. I don't even heed the "warning" to use the slide lock to charge the first round... just good solid "sling-shot" and go with it. Kahr had Trijicon Tritium Night Sights designed for the CW series last winter, so rather than attempt a DIY (to avoid breaking a trit tube myself), I shipped my slide to Kahr in January for the install. They came back perfect, poa/poi, and have that nice warm green glow when you need it most.

Normally, I prefer IWB, and the CW9 fits perfectly in a Don Hume 715 I picked up from a used holster bin several years ago for a KT PF9 - holster was actually made for a compact 1911 and my Kimber also carries well in the same DH. Occassionally I will carry it in a Bianchi OWB that was originally designed for the somewhat smaller framed PM9. I did a bit of "wet and stretch" to make it compatible with the CW9, but it works quite well.

These things are extremely well made, particularly internally, although the external ain't shabby either. Although I really had my heart set on the MK9, I don't regret the purchase of the CW9 and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Several years ago the "elite trigger" was special to only a few of the Kahr offerings, but now all Kahr handguns have the same silky smooth 7+ lb DAO trigger. And, I do mean silky smooth. Takedown is simple, and even detail stripping the slide is a simple process, if you carefully follow directions.

In the last year I have finally worked my carry guns down to four: Kimber Stainless Compact, Sig P239 40 cal, S&W 637 Airweight and the Kahr CW9. For my needs on the job, I carry the 637 mostly during the day (and in the yard... already killed 3 snakes in the yard this year), but the CW9 has found it's way to the top of the "off work" rotation. As I have aged a little I have found that simple is a good thing. The basic "point and press" manual of arms of the 637 and CW9 are the same, and the trigger feel is very, very close, making training for the unexpected need much simpler. No safety or decocker to think about in the aftermath of that possible unexpected "need" with either (unless the 637 was thumb cocked for some reason).

Thanks, great info guys. I have mostly been carrying my LCP but the .380 has been bothering me with just wondering if its got enough
for a situation.I really want a small 9mm...I do have other carry guns also.Kimber Crimson Ultra Carry 45acp..its great but some
situations just too heavy, sorta lumpy in my super tuck.I carry my Glock 33 .357 sig in the winter under my jacket in a high ride
OWB. I picked up a Glock 19 recently and carryed it but just not comfortable with it in super tuck either...i am too pudgy with a little
belly roll so guess thats the problem.Both PM and CW 9's are .090 inch wide and thats really about the size of a old S&W .380 i used
to carry.I bought it back in 95...first Smiths to come out with polymer frames but crappy slide metal...its retired to ketchen drawer

its cost more. But i noticed the slide on my Kimber 45 is only .905 inch but the grip is 1.248 or so.
How wide is the grip on a CW and PM 9? Pics look like about as thick as slide.

I carry a Kahr P9. Dimensionally, it is the same as the CW9, just a few internal differences.
I have some other carry options, but the Kahr always seems to be the CCW that I go with. It's slim and is very easy to carry with any type of clothing. No worries, no fuss.

I have 3 holsters that work well:
MTAC IWB
CTAC IWB (all kydex) that I got from Keith B from the "Pay it forward" link
Blackhawk #4 OWB from Academy for $20

I looked for a CCW for several weeks and decided on the P9. The grip just barely fills my hand so it's as small as it can possibly be while avoiding "pinky dangle"

My wife carries a P9 as one of her CCW. As someone else said same on the outside as the CW9 just a different barrel and front sight mounting. She loves it, and I have been allowed to shot it a couple of times. It is a sweet shooter.



She carries it in a DM Bullard Dual Carry IWB holster. I don't have a pic of her holster, but here is one of my Bullard holster with my S&W 908 in it. Her holster looks the same.

You can get the P9 in all black, which is one of the reasons I went with the P9.
I'm not sure about the PM9.

You may have already decided, but I'll throw in my $.02.
I just shipped off my Kahr CW9 to the factory due to light primer strikes on 50% of the rounds that I fire. I've checked several forums and I have seen a few posts where they have had the same problem. I think everyone of those folks sent their gun back to Kahr to get it fixed. While all were pretty satisfied with the repairs (replace slide, barrel and sometimes the striker assembly) it cost me $82 to ship it priority overnight from a PakMail location. I am waiting for their evaluation of the problem.

Yeah I should have said we bought my wife's gun used at a Gun Show. First time she took it to the range she had a problem with trigger pin walking out. We took it a gun shop we know who does a lot of business with Kahr. He sent it in the factory got that fixed and since it was manfactured in 2000 gun got all of the updates. All it cost us was shipping about $30, and we even got a hard box for it since we didn't have one before. Turn around was about 10 days. Gun has been flawless for the last 600 hundreds through it.

I had a CW40 for a little while. It was a great little gun, but I decided to go with the Kimber CDP Ultra II as my carry weapon.

+1 on the CW9, I have not had any issues with mine (~800 rounds). However, just like the Chevy-vs-Ford debate, Kahrs have either a love or hate relationship.

My CW9 works well in a Comp-Tac Paddle holster (OWB), and a High Noon Holster (IWB) just fine in summer attire.

I don't use the CW9 for pocket carry, just doesn't fit right. My pocket is a Kel-Tec P3AT.

I HAD a Kahr P9, very similar to the CW9.

It was one of the most troublesome and unreliable pieces of . . . junk . . . it's been my displeasure to own.

Seriously . . . what was the problem? Well, the trigger often wouldn't actuate the striker. It sometimes failed to go into battery. The slide sometimes failed to lock back. The trigger pin had a tendency to walk out. Kahr tried repeatedly to repair it, and paid postage both ways, but they eventually gave up and replaced the gun. (Can't fault them for trying.)

I traded the replacement - unfired - for a Glock 26. The G26 isn't as neat a package as the P9 was, but it has the virtue of actually working.

I received a call from Kahr and they reported to me that after 100 rounds they had no issues. I told them the brands that I used and he told me the brands they use. Apparently, I am not allowed to use practice ammo in my gun, only defense ammo. They will send me a list of the ammo they used when they return my gun, from what I remember they used Speer Gold Dot, Federal Premium, Black Hills and one other.

So, I'd like to know what you other Kahr 9mm owners use for practice ammo.
