Thoughts on Taurus Millenium Pro PT-145

Post by SW40VE »

Anyone here have any experience with this handgun? I was looking for something smaller and more powerful than my XD 9mm and this one looks promising.

I shot one of the non Millienium PT145s several years ago. I was favorably impressed. It was accurate but quite a handfull with 200 gr +p ammo.

Sportsmans Warehouse will be calling me as soon as they get one in. Can't pass up a 10+1 45ACP sub compact @$300 that shoots accurately and conceals well. I have read alot of good reviews. Anyone else?

I haven't had alot luck with the reliablility of Taurus firearms. If you wanted something small and powerful for around $300 I would go with a Rock Island Armory 1911. They make a compact version for around the same price.

I have read about reliability problems with most compact 1911 formats. Any truth to that?

There's a big fanbase of the Millenium Pro series. Unfortunately, it suffers from a lackluster reputation of the Millenium (non Pro) series. Much like the S&W Simgas. The PT-145 is basically the same size as the subcompact XD, but chambered for .45ACP. I bought it as my carry weapon and have no complaints. Some will say the trigger is long. Sure, compared to what? After 500 rounds, it feels normal. I shot low at first but I can easily get 3-4 inch groups at 7 yards. The hole in the head is from 120 rounds through my XD9. The bottom hole is from my first time out with the Taurus PT-145.

I've not shot/handled the PT145MP, but my PT111MP (9mm) has been flawless for the last 2/yrs 1000-1500rds. the only time I had a FTE was when I was shooting .380 through it just for kicks.

This is what I have heard on other forums, as well. No experience myself, but most of what I have heard is positive, so long as it is a Millenium Pro and not just a Millenium. Good luck!

Well, I picked it up tonight. Taurus Millennium Pro PT-145 Stainless. $309 at Sportsmans Warehouse. Had to drive to Round Rock to get it, but it was worth it. Cabelas (in Buda, TX) had it only in blue, and their price was $369! I guess they have to pay for that huge fancy building somehow, but not with my money! Noone in San Antonio had it for a decent price.

Anyway, I found out that it is the latest model with the accessory rail, DA/SA trigger, and Heinie sights. Good find IMHO. I will try to take it out tomorrow after work or maybe during lunch

Congrats!

I wish I could point you to some good Taurus forums but there aren't any. There are a couple that don't even have a domain. One is on UnitedForums and the other is on MSN, I believe.

Just got back from the range with it. Put 150 rounds of UMC 230gr. JHP's and 20 rounds of Federal Premium Low Recoil 185gr. Hydra-shok's through it without a hitch. Several casings flew up and hit me in the head, but other than that, it was great. Shooting slowly and carefully at about 10 yards, I can put 11 rounds into a 2" group. Very accurate from what I can tell. Recoil isn't too bad either for such a small gun. Trigger feels GREAT. I give it two thumbs up for sure and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a CCW .45 cal.
