It says no competition only vests but in almost every video I can dig up on the tube shows people wearing these vests if they are wearing any concealment garment at all. Am I missing something or are the vests acceptable now?

Yet Annother IDPA Question
Concealable Graments?

And what is with the people not wearing any kind of concealment garment?

Re: Yet Annother IDPA Question
The garment has to be long enough to cover your pistol.
Sometimes, the course of fire will say if concealment is optional. Our club does this a lot in the hot summer months.

Re: Yet Annother IDPA Question
And the reference to the "competition only" vests is more from the aspect of wearing what I would call "symbolic concealment" or similar.
An example of this would be attempting to use a mesh/see-thru highway-worker's saftey vest as "concealment."
The other reference in the rulebook to vests, IIRC, is to weighted seams (for easy throw on the draw) or huge non-standard pockets.

I've done that with speedloaders out in the street, seems practical to some folks in the real world.
Re: Yet Annother IDPA Question
I'll stick a full mag in my gun side jacket pocket, It's very inconvenient to draw, but I'm already carrying one in a weak side mag pouch, and I wouldn't carry it otherwise. It not only makes drawing faster, but keeps the jacked down on windy days.

Don't get caught up in the rule book with every tiny detail, keep it simple and go have fun. Bottom line is can you draw, hit the target safely and in a timely manner without shooting a GG.

I agree…it's all about having fun and learning how to be a better shooter. I am hooked!

IF your shooting a monthly match at psc they are pretty laid back. The rulebook carries more weight in a "sanctioned match"
I wear a 511 tactical vest for IDPA. During the hottest summer months PSC will wave concealment requirements for monthly matches..
Ask when you sign in for the match
