Factory Load - No Primer

Post by Dad24GreatKids »

Earlier this evening I was loading magazines for my G23 & G27. Kinda mindless work, so I was on autopilot talking with my youngest daughter. About half way thru a box I noticed flakes of gun powder in several of the plastic compartments. I've never seen this before so I decided to unload some of the magazines and see if there might be a defective round. Sure enough I found a single round without a primer. I've loaded thousands of rounds and have never seen a round like this before. The "what if this had been in my carry pistol" thought crossed my mind. In the future I'll be more diligent.

Well if in fact it was primer-less, I'd be interested in what brand.

Any sign of the primer in the box?

Of course it's the brand I shoot at the range.

What caliber, and was it target ammo, or defense ammo? Hopefully you've already shot off an e-mail to Federal.

I've never had a round with a missing primer but, I have sure had my share of rounds with primers in upside down. I had two in the same box of Blazer 9mm once. For serious business regardless of brand I always inspect my ammo to insure they are 100%.

.40 cal, target round. Purchased sometime in the last year. Assuming I've fired 5K rounds during the last 15 years then that's a failure rate of .0002%. Seems acceptable.
