Shot 2 new ones today SP101 .327 and Ultra Carry II

Post by Sidro »

Went with a friend today to pick up his new Ruger SP101 in .327 Fed that has been 11 months on order. This thing is snappy. Shot at cans 17yds distance with 85gr jhp. Once windage was adjusted every thing went fine. At this distance about 1/4 of front sight was aim point at this distance. Recoil is straight back into your hand and very comfortable to shoot but this thing has a crack to it. Lots of noise for this caliber. Ran 60 rds through it and had a ball. If anyone thinks they want one I reccomend them, I will have one as soon as i can.

Also shot my Ultra Carry II for the first time. Only had 14 rds of 230gr fmj to shoot but resulted in 10 hits on the cans. This one is a keeper, Truglo rear sight and factory front as the Truglo front sight did not fit for some reason(too small).

Was very impressed with the SP101 in .327 and the Kimber in .45acp, don't think you would be wrong to buy either one.

I've been eyeing the .327 as a potential recommendation for recoil sensitive shooters, but haven't ever had the chance to fire one. From what I understand the round was developed to add a little capacity, decrease recoil, and offer decent stopping power for self defense.

How would you compare the recoil to a .38?

Do you feel that the round fills a void?

As far as recoil i would say somewhere between a .38 and a .38 special, problably on the low side. As to filling a void that would just be a matter of opinion. It is a real pleasure to shoot though.
