When used on a handgun does it hurt balistics due to some of the gasses escaping instead of pushing on the bullet. I was told by manufactor that it doesnt but I cant see how it wouldnt.
Im refering to a 5 inch semi auto that has a muzzle break on top of the gun around the 4 inch area and going to the end of the barrel. Thanks for the help.

Re: Muzzle Break Help
According to the laws of physics, I agree that a muzzle break is going to reduce velocity of the bullet. Of course, the people selling the muzzle break parts/service are going to try to downplay the loss of performance. I think that it is going to be a matter for the consumer to decide if the gain in accuracy due to muzzle flip is worth the loss of velocity.Keith wrote:When used on a handgun does it hurt balistics due to some of the gasses escaping instead of pushing on the bullet. Sure its got to, but how much? Probably not enough to make any tangible difference.

Re: Muzzle Break Help
Time for an OCD / Rain Man moment.
The item in question is a muzzle brake, not a muzzle break.
The item "brakes" or slows the muzzle rise of the gun while firing. It also "brakes" or minimizes the recoil impulse felt by the shooter.
It does not break (or render inoperable) the muzzle in any way. Those holes/slots are there on purpose, not because the muzzle "broke."
That is all. I feel better now - I'm going to count spilled toothpicks and wait for Wapner. After I wash my hands 6 times.
ETA: fixed spelling.

Don't get me started about "payed" versus 'paid'.
I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal
