It seems a little silly to me...I like all of them, I just happen to like shooting my Glock 22. Personal preference, but it doesn't mean I don't like a 1911 any less.

I haven't met too many guns I don't enjoy shooting - although I haven't fired a .50 cal handgun yet. I don't think I would enjoy that too much.

Guns are like women, they come in all shapes and sizes, and everyone has a preference. I could elaborate this analogy more, but I'm pretty sure there are women reading this forum, and it would be in bad form.

Ironically enough, I like all of them just like I like all of the handguns. Go figure.

I have owned five Glocks since the mid 90’s (17, 19, 26, 33, 23). They all have performed flawlessly. A Glock 17 was the very first hand gun I ever purchased and the primary reason was because there was no safety lever to manipulate. I wanted something I could pull out and shoot as easily as possible. As it’s been said before; “like a revolver but with greater capacity”.

Glocks have always felt great in my hand, even though for me the 1911 grip is better (and I have owned those as well). Having said that, I actually like the grip on the S&W M&P the best and am seriously considering picking up a 9c as a possible replacement to my G26 as my daily carry.

Aside from the ease of maintenance, one other minor detail about Glocks that I really like is that the magazines don’t give you that little pinch when you’re loading them. I know, I know, big deal…..but after a day at the range and several hundred rounds, it makes a difference.

I really like 1911’s too, but I always end up shooting my Glock’s more. That’s primarily because (with the exception of the 33) the ammo is cheaper and that’s what I actually carry.
And if I were called upon to identify briefly the principal trait of the entire twentieth century, here too, I would be unable to find anything more precise and pithy than to repeat once again: Men have forgotten God. - Alexander Solzhenitsyn

I'll go ahead and put my 2 cents in...

I've owned several Glocks and XD's. Of these, the Glock beats the XD in the simplicity department. The trigger mechanism in the XD is much more complicated than it has to be. Glocks are easy, and cheap to maintain, reliable and accurate enough out of the box for most applications.
Neither the Glock or XD are what I'd call "attractive" pistols but I'll take a Glock over an XD every time.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

I own 2.5 Generation Glock 22 and this was my first pistol. It started life as a 2nd Gen San Antonio PD trade in which 4 years after I purchased it a frame rail broke(yes it fell into the serial #'s of the recall) and Glock replaced the entire frame with a 3rd Gen and completely rebuilt the top end for free. This pistol is super reliable and very accurate but way too big to comfortably conceal carry, thus it stays on the nightstand for premises defense. I have a great appreciation for Glocks, one of the most mechanicaly sound pistols manufactured.

Fast forward to a couple months ago. After shooting many different 1911 formats for years and never actually owning one I decided one needed to be added to the stable. So the final decision was a Kimber UCII with night sights and Crimson Trace grips. Man this thing is SWEEEEET! Accurate, thin and packs a big wallop in the form of 230 grain T-series Rangers. It has become my everday carry while just disappearing under a T shirt and the Royal Guard Holster is super comfortable.

Another question. Where does a S & W 6906 fall into this Glock vs. ______ discussion??

The Marine's Force Recon units use Kimber exclusively, these guys are the baddest of the bad and they choose to use the 1911 format and Kimber to boot. What do all the Glock Fanboys have to say about this?? :biggrinjester:

I don't think any Glock "Fanboys" showed up on this thread yet, but I digress. It depends how the Kimber was selected (BTW I think Kimbers are fine weapons). Price was the only thing that kept me away form the Ultra CDP

a) All the Marines in the Marine's Force Recon units voted for it?
b) The Kimber won out in testing?
c) The brass upstairs made the decision?
d) Kimber tendered a lower bid than Glock?

Who knows.

Uuuhhh, just spitballin' here..... but isn't 1911, as in "Model of 1911," in the 20th century? I've never seen a 1911 pistol manufactured prior to the year 1900, let alone prior to 1910 - the year JMB finalized the design.

It just could be that there are some shooters out there that don't like a gun and have master level knowledge of gun craft? I for one dislike Glocks a lot. I find them too blocky with controls I can't reach due in part to the blocky nature of the design. I find the gun to be tiring to shoot. Yet in spite of this I can hit my target just fine with a Glock and STILL don't like it!
It's cause you have those little tiny, dainty fingers. So you have to shoot one of those 1911 style girly guns. "rlol"

I was just now looking at the Glock website to read up on the Gen 4 pistols, and it appears that the only currently available offerings in Gen 4 are the 9mm G17 and the .40 cal G22. Is that correct?

If I were ever to buy one, it probably wouldn't be an earlier generation model, since it is the adjustable backstraps and the reversible magazine eject button that would make me consider a Glock. And like I said previously, I probably wouldn't be interested unless it were a .45.

TAM,

A friend of mine has a fourth generation Glock 19.

Well, I haven't seen it yet and she isn't terribly knowledgable about such things, but she said the store she bought it from (Academy in the Dallas area) said it was a fourth generation...
