Well I just talked to SIA. He's having computer problems big time, and hasn't had time to work on it. Seems like it freezes up on him when he reaches the desktop from booting up.

Sorry about your problems SIA! Hope you get back on soon! :tiphat:

Anywho, he asked me to post a pic of his new gun. And as technologically challenged as I am, you're gonna have to settle for a link. So here's SIA's new hand cannon.

Forum friends and CHL Forum surfers:

I am quite heartened by y'all's responses to my new .357, but regret
that I have been on the forum such a limited time lately. Between being
in Austin 3 weekends out of the last 6 (helping that AK-47 grabbing son of mine),
and having PC issues, I haven't been able to be here much.

Having borrowed another PC to catch up on email and visit the forum, let me take
the time in this entry to comment on a wide variety of people's comments from pages
2 through 4 of this thread.

VMaxer - I don't think that's me who was shooting the .357 at the range. I was in Lane 2
at Bass Pro/Grapevine. I was there Thursday, July 1, about 7-8 PM. The man who asked me
what I was shooting to have such a reaction had on some kind of US military veteran shirt.
The woman who shot with him had a Smith and Wesson M & P in 9MM, with about 3 mags that
were mostly black, but with pink butt plates. If that's not how your bride rolls, I guess it
wasn't me. They were in Lane 1, to my immediate left. :-)

eddieconcarne - Your photos showing flames were awesome, as well as those beautiful Smith's.
With regard to the timing of my revolver, austinrealtor showed me about "lockup" on his Smiths
when we had some range time on 7/6/10. I believe that my gun has pretty good lockup, but of
course keep in mind that I'm a newbie with regard to wheelguns.

NcongruNT - I don't understand your electronic earmuffs. If you can hear conversations in other
rooms in your shared house, wouldn't that amplify the .357's booms??

saltydog452 - You requested pix of my seatbelt holster. Sorry, but my digital photo/upload foo is
not present. My seatbelt holster is not specifically for a revolver, but most any middle sized gun.
My PT111 fits in it too. You may wish to search the DeSantis holster site. The model is a "Jamaican",
so named because Jamaican taxi drivers use such holsters. There is also a man who goes to the gun
shows who sells his own. I don't have his card handy or I'd provide you his contact information. He
speaks with a throat-mounted speech device, so that's rather unique.

MoJoTexas - IIRC, your Taurus 627 Tracker is full sized, since it has 7 rounds. I was happy enough
with my Rossi since it's 6, but a 7 is even better.

mctowalot - Thanks for the congratulations on my new piece. You bet the hearing protection will be on!

joe817 - Thank you friend for posting the link after we spoke on the blower (phone) today!

USA1 - Thank you for using your photo foo to bring the link's picture to the party. You say that with
all this .357 talk, you want to try one. Is that sick? No, it's something that must be done. Too bad
you and I have geography problems or I'd let you try out my .357. Your wife might not recognize you
when you get home from the range session - your hair will be blown back into a pompadour (sp?) and
you will have the face of one in shock!! :-)

All: Maybe I wasn't watching closely enough, but I did not see the flame that many of you have reported.

I'll try to explain that. Might not be a proper and technical explanation so bear with me.

Electronics earmuffs have a built in microphone that allows the user to hear normal sounds at a normal level.
When a sound is detected such as a high decibel gunshot, it will instantly prevent that sound
from being transmitted to the wearer.

In other words.. You will hear normal sounds and conversation but the sound from a gun blast is temporarily muted.
When the blast is over, the system goes back to normal, once again allowing normal sounds to be heard.

Confused yet?

USA1:

Electronic earmuffs that both allow heightened hearing of
normal sounds AND muffle gunshots?

That reminds me of the Time Warner Cable BBQ guys in the TV ads who
complain about those NYC yuppy cookers being something they ain't.

Electronic earmuffs are AWESOME. I don't think they have any practical application in a defense situation (throwing them on before you fire .357 indoors at an intruder seems like a waste of valuable time). But for the range, they are worth every single penny you pay. Love them.

Just to be clear everyone, that was a joke. If you have advanced notice of an intruder, it would be plausible - but I don't keep my electronic ears on the night stand.

But yes, the electronic earmuffs allow heightened hearing while cutting off any sound over a certain decibel level. They're like regular earmuffs, with external microphone(s) and headphone speakers internally. So, the electronics relay sound to you, but filter out any loud noise.

My wife, son, and I each have a pair of Peltor Tactical Pro headsets. They are marvelous. They work exactly as advertised to cut out really loud noises - like .44 magnums and .308 caliber rifles, while still allowing quiet conversation to be heard quite clearly. No, they aren't cheap. But once you've tried out a pair, you'll never go back to old school. My ears ring constantly from years of abuse by guns and guitar amps, and I really would like to keep it from getting any worse.
