Top Gun remodeled is indeed very clean/ nice/ friendly. Staff is professional and nice selection of rental guns.

I might point out that last time I was there, they asked for ID and made you sign a disclaimer. I dont know if anyone else does that in the area. Maybe their lawyers/ insurers are on their case.

Memorial Shooting Center off of I-10 requires that you sign a waiver as well.

One of my friends had a bad experience with the sales staff at Top Gun. He wanted to rent a Sig and put a few boxes through it before going through with buying it...

He asked the salesman if they would give him the rental for free if he ended up buying the pistol afterward. Sales guy: "Absolutely not, sir."

He ended up buying it at Academy instead.

That's also the procedure at Winchester Gallery in Ft.Worth where I shoot. You sign the waiver, give them your D.L. & they hold both until you check out.

So does Shiloh, the first time you shoot there. Shiloh is a nice place, and the workers are very nice. Just wish they were closer to Spring and had more shooting lanes.

But we do have a new one going up on Spring Cypress just east of Kuykendahl. I talked to them last week and they expect to be open the first of August.

I have shot at Top Gun for a number of years and I have always found them to be friendly and professional. The new range is an improvement, but the old range wasn't bad. I had to sign a waver years ago, and signed another one a few months ago, post fire rehab. Overall it is good range and pretty close to my house :).

For your pizza fix, take a trip to Westpark and South Gessner and give Verona's a try (about 10 minutes away) . Good Italian food and GREAT Pizza. Berry's is good, but their service is spotty. Berry's does have a larger menu.

In defense of Top Gun, since i like to shoot here, it could be they have a strict managment and its against policy to give out anything, you cant blame someone for following the rules of their company, it might also be an insurance thing, who knows i dont think this faults them tho

My post wasn't 'blaming' the salesman as a person... it knocked Top Gun for having a silly policy. It's no secret that the prices at many ranges are higher than what you might find at a sporting goods store. Rather than showing some flexibility, Top Gun chose to lose the profit margin on a $700+ sale. My friend ended up saving a good chunk of change by driving a mile or two up 59 and buying at Academy. I think my friend came out ahead over Top Gun in that situation.

Either way, I still like shooting at Top Gun when I'm on that side of town.

Folks sign a waver/release what ever you want to call it before a training class on my range too.

I personally love Top Gun. Anytime I go home to Houston I try to make a trip there, mostly because its the only convenient indoor range I know of that allows rapid fire. The place I go to in Austin doesn't even allow double taps, how the heck am I supposed to practice for a real situation where there's no time limit on taking shots??

I'm glad they finished up the remodeling recently. A few months ago you had to literally wait in line to get to one of the 4 lanes that werent affected by the fire. Now everything is nice and clean and well lit. They also have a really nice selection of defensive ammo, tho everything's pretty well marked up. Great place to shoot tho

A Thumbs Up for Top Gun from me as well.

The only place i know of that you can rent Full Auto. You have to buy their frangible ammo which bakes it a bit expensive but at eats you still can rent em. They are a blast!

Actually, since the fire and remodeling, Top Gun has upgraded their backstop.

They now allow ball ammo 5.56 like M193. Of course M855/SS109 is not allowed. But at least if you have a 5.56 AR-15 you can shoot at Top Gun without frangible ammunition.

I think perhaps I will bring them a lot of business from this forum by my previous statement. Perhaps I'll ask them for some royalty dividends.

yea from what i know they allow 556 and 223 but no magnum rounds, but you dont have to use the frangible ammo now

I can confirm this. Took my new AR-15 out about 2 weeks ago and had no problem with .223 FMJ rounds.

I completed my renewal class this past Saturday and the range has really been improved over the last time I shot there. It's nice to know that you can now shoot regular 5.56 ammo now. My favorite place to shoot is still the NRA range in VA. That's one of the few things I miss about living in that part of the country.
