SW99 Trouble

I just sent the following E-Mail to S&W. What do you guys suggest? Is this a common problem with this pistol?

"Ser. No. SAE 8127 breakdown release will not work. It has always been a problem, and now will not release at all. I am in Silverthorne, CO. Please advise appropriate action."

I don't know how many folks have this firearm. I have had mine
for a little over a year now and so far it has been very reliable.
I've not had any breakdown issues at all.

So, I'm afraid I am not much help here.

I've owned a SW99 compact for several years now and I've neer had a problem one.

So is the take down lever tight and won't move? moves freely with nothing happening? Just curious.

It looks like it moves less than 1/8 inch. I've always had to fight it and fight it to release it. This time I gave up. And I need to clean the pistol. Still waiting for S&W to respond to my E-Mail. May phone them tomorrow and discuss. I could go to the nearest gun shop and let them look at it, but that's 62 miles one way.

This may help someone. The S&W guy said to get rough with it. To put a screwdriver in the gap and twist (This is plastic, not metal), or place fingernails on the lowest grooves and pull like H--. I proceeded to put thumbnails in the gaps and pulled down hard. It worked. The book says to use one drop of oil on each side there. I guess that wasn't enough. This time I used 2 drops each plus 2 drops in the center of the release linkage. Let's see if it is still workable next time I need to break it down.

Before you do anything "rough" to it, try pressing the decocking button - you don't
have to pull the trigger to disassemble it, but I cleaned my SW99 yesterday and
found (reinforced, since I found this one time before) that I needed to press that button
and then it disassembled just fine...

I see - the actual "tabs" that you grasp and pull down on were stuck? And the screwdriver or fingernails were to force
them to slide down?
I've not had that problem but thanks for making me aware.

Right. The lube drawing shows to put 1 drop of oil at each of the 2 locations, which I had religiously done. This time I put 2 drops and 2 in the center of the mechanism, just for good measure. I had tried cocking, decocking, dry firing, and everything else I could think of before phoning S&W. If any of you encounter the same problem, try "getting rough" with it.

Yes, my book says 1/8 inch. I almost rubbed blisters fooling with it one time. Even put on gloves and kept trying until I got it. I really think that more lubrication than called-for in the latch mechanism is the answer. I hope so. Next time I break it down, we will see.
