A Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher used the state's database of concealed weapon permits to solicit funds. Lucky Rosenbloom, a St. Paul gun-carry permit holder, filed a complaint with the St. Paul police department after he received the invitation. The sheriff will not be charged with violating the state Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.

Re: Minnesota Sheriff Misuses CC Permit Data
While Fletcher's intentions seem benign enough, it sets a dangerous precedent to me. Applied to other government records, I'm sure nobody'd be happy- how about a fundraiser for folks who own sports cars, where they can race police cruisers at a race track- solicited via the DMV?
