Locks Built Into the Gun - Huh???

I've been in the market (tire kicking/window-shopping more or less but getting more serious as time goes by) for a nice .38/.357 revolver. It seems that a good chunk of the new/newer model revolvers have a built-in lock of some type. S&W has it, so does Ruger, Taurus has its "Security System" on both revolvers, RIFLES and AUTO-LOADERS. Seriously!?!?!?!

I only thought that these internal locks were on S&W revolvers until I put a a Ruger LCR in my hands. I thought to myself, "Self, why do these revolvers have a lock on them? You know, something else that could (has) gone wrong?? Why only on revolvers?" Well, I thought they were only on revolvers until today, I was checking out Taurus and came across their "Security System" - seriously?? Just one more thing that the user needs to check/worry about...NO THANKS!

I guess I'm relegated to buying older/non-locking models. Neither my Kimber, Glock or ANY of my other firearms have an internal lock...thank you very much!

Well well well, just found out about the new S&W Bodyguard .38 - NO INTERNAL LOCK.

Well, guess what I just bought? Yep, an S&W Bodyguard .38 (includes laser and NO lock)!! Hope to take it to the range tomorrow.

No problem I just don't lock them ever and tape the little key into the plastic box and forget about it.

If you sell or trade it later then the next guy/gal has options and doesn't have to look for a lock AND a key.

I have a Taurus PT1911 that has the locking mechanism on the hammer. I've put less than 100 rounds through it and it has locked up on me twice because the lock has rotated out of set. I imagine that this would be a great design for somebody that wants to have an impressive-looking 1911 that was only meant for eye-candy, but I would NEVER recommend this pistol to anybody unless they intend to replace the hammer assembly (as I intend to do).

I called Taurus and asked them if I could send it in to get the hammer replaced with a non-locking version. Their response was that I could send it in and they would tighten it up. Thanks, Taurus, if I ever decide to carry a pistol that my life does NOT depend on, you're first in line.

Needless to say, it's my LAST Taurus purchase as well.
