In the vein of the Rodeo Clown story below I thought I'd share this one.
It was about 1 AM - I had just left work on Oaklawn in Dallas and got on I-35 going downtown heading East. It was where the road is six lanes in each direction and we were doing 70 mph.
Up ahead I could see traffic slowing down and getting over to the left and then I saw the flashing lights of several police cars pulled over behind and in front of a T-top Transam.
As I drove by real slow I looked over and saw three blonde pre-teen girls in just long t-shirts standing and sobbing in the light of the police cars and two heavily muscled men bent over a cruiser handcuffed.
As I drove by one of the men made a break for it - knocking over three LEOs and ran along the side of the road. He looked over and I slowed down.
Sure enough, he ran onto the road heading for the other side. I was driving a small truck with a big engine and a stick that I had used to herd livestock with for years. This was going to be no different!
I gunned the engine and headed out into the middle of the road, angling him down the road at nealy 20 mph. I timed his cutback and slammed on the brakes just as he tried to let me pass and he bounced off my truck, fell down, got up and tried to run behind me.
I backed up and he bounced off me again, rolled around, then tried to run in front of me with the same results. This time he rolled off my hood and I backed up and then got in position again, engine revving, brakes locked, stick locked. He just laid there.
By this time traffic had stopped and a dozen of Dallas' Finest swarmed all over him and then carried him mosh-pit style to the side of the road, laughing all the way. A sgt came over and thanked me while drivers honked and gave me a thumbs up.
I have never been a rodeo clown, but might as well have been!
( He is lucky the PD came - If the creep had gotten past me I would have swung around 180 degrees and just run him over or scraped him on the center divider. )
Funny and not so funny
