I've recently got into IDPA and have noticed quite an improvement in my shooting abilities because of it. I find that my draw times are faster and my shooting is more accurate. I also know my firearm better than before (which was still quite good) and my handling fundamentals are now grilled into my brain. Shooting the matches is also alot of fun and the people who shoot are typically very nice and friendly. I have yet to have a bad experience at a match.
I've been going out to the Elm Fork Range off Luna Rd./635 on Satur-days and Wednesday nights with the Dallas Action Pistol Shooters (DAPS). I wanted to get into the Collin County IDPA but their matches are a bit far to travel to (Greenville). Are there any other ranges in the Dallas area that host IDPA?

The Shooting Gallery in Fort Worth. http://www.ctidpa.com http://www.winchestergallery.com
There is a match the first 3 Thursdays of each month. Sign up by 6, hammer at 6:30. We're usually done and gone about 9pm.
It's indoors and the shots are not too far but the MD comes up with some craziness so it's always a fun time.
Also check out http://www.dfwshooters.org for ALL local IDPA and USPSA match info.
Age_Ranger, I shoot at Elm fork too although I've not been able to make it out there since the BUG match on August 30th.

I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

I missed the BUG match AND the qualifier.......just bad scheduling on my part. Hopefully, they'll get another qualifier soon. Right now i'm UNC but I'm having a great time. Thanks to the other shooters, I've lerned pretty quick. I'm not very competitive right now, though. I'm focusing more on shot placement and getting used to shooting on the move. I went to the indor range to test fire a friends pistol and found myself punching out 1-2" groups easily. Shooting paper targets at the range seems kind of boring now.

Qualifier = Classifier. My home club, Cross Timbers IDPA, will be holding an IDPA classifier THIS SATURDAY 10/28 at the Johnson Co. Range which is about 40 minutes south of Fort Worth in Alvarado http://www.jcssa.com
If you can make it, please be there by 9:00 am, a little earlier would be better. Bring at least 200 rounds off ammo (to be safe but not likely to use all) because we're going to run 3 exciting stages in addition to the classifier stages.
I am FINALLY going to get classified in SSR.

Thanks, meant classifier. They're few and far between. I've got the kids baseball/cheerleading games then but might have to go to the classifier this time. Then again, I'm wondering if it might be better off to just wait until there's one locally. It certainly can't hurt for me to practice. DAPS might have one in Nov/Dec.......maybe
