My Uncle Tom pass this morning....

Whether the need is great or small, there is power in prayer, especially when God's people raise their voices together.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies.

It looks like I'm going to fly out to California on Tuesday. Tom's services are on Wednesday, and then I'll fly home on Thursday.

Thanks again everyone for your kind thoughts. I just learned that TSA Phoenix Sky Harbor all think they are being filmed for an episode of Cops. I'll never complain about TSA at DFW again. I will never fly another trip that involves connecting flights on different airlines through this airport again.

TAM,

My deepest sympathies. Your description makes clear that we've lost one of the finest members of the greatest generation. My family's thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

Well, I said that facetiously, but those guys have a really bad attitude there. I'll never complain about the DFW TSA folks again. These guys were yelling at people - and I don't just mean one or two - and threatening them, and just generally reading everyone the riot act, whether it was needed or not. I got yelled at, and I was already doing what the guy was yelling at me to do (put my laptop in a separate tray) before he even walked up to me. An older gentleman asked me if he could butt in front of me in the line to go through the scanners, because he was going to miss his connecting flight if he didn't hurry. I let him go ahead of me. The TSA guy comes up and starts getting all up in this old guy's grill like some kind of Marine Corps DI, about telling the old man to remove his belt. But the passenger was in the middle of taking off his shoes and couldn't get to his belt yet. The guy yelled at the old man and pointed at an x-ray booth and said, "IF YOU DON'T TAKE YOUR BELT OFF, YOU'RE GOING TO GO IN THERE!!" The guy was a real jerk. It was inappropriate, unprofessional, and totally uncalled for. It was like they were trying to deliberately intimidate every passenger.

At DFW, if you have to make a connecting flight with a carrier other than the one you arrived on, you don't have to go outside of the security area. You simply get on the shuttle train, go to the next terminal, and board the other flight.

At Phoenix, I arrived on AA, and my connecting flight was with US Air. So I had to exit the AA terminal, go downstairs, walk outside and down to the shuttle bus station, take the bus to the next terminal, walk the length of the terminal, and go back through security a second time. The layover was 2.5 hours, and most of that was spent just getting to the next departure gate. On my flight home, the layover is only supposed to be 58 minutes. I'll never make the second flight. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that.

Given the real meaning of the phrase reading the riot act, I doubt anyone needed it. ;-)

I wonder who you can complain to about stuff like this, if you are not a personal friend of a U.S. congressman or senator or the Secretary of DHS.
