I know some troopers who think the product is a good one (I'm assuming... I can't see ebay from work, but there was a post right here on the forum about armored clipboards.)

I actually think it is an EXCELLENT idea for LEO's. They are have a clipboard in their hands a lot of the time anyway, might as well be of some use defensively.

Am I missing something?

That clipboard may have a chance of saving the Travelocity knome from a bullet but that isn't big enough for me.
The odds of an attackers bullet hitting the clipboard instead of you are probably pretty low.

Odds low? If I am an LEO standing at the door of a car and a thug decides to use the weapon he is carrying, then it just might help. Is it a magic shield? NO!

It's all about angles. You understand MOA, being a shooter.

Stand arm's length from someone. Cover your face with a clipboard. The other person can see every part of you except what's behind the clipboard. Now extend your arm, clipboard held flat towards the other person's face. Now how much of you can they see? Probably not much more than your feet.

This is an example where closing the distance is preferrable to retreating.

Bullet-resistant clipboards are not a totally new concept. They were around in some form when I was an officer 12 years ago.

A regular-sized clipboard will cover a good portion of a car window, as shown. If you watch the "police shootout" videos, you'll see that a good number of officers are shot while standing at the door of a violator. As mentioned, it could make the difference, as a clipboard is in your hand during a good portion of traffic stops at some point in time. Much like a good-sized flashlight makes a good impact weapon, if that's what you have in your hand at the time.

I like it being used as in above picture; for a LEO.

I don't like it as a shield for me in the car.

However; I do like the door pannel that's in the web site that GrannyGlock posted.

There actually is a little magic inside the Composite Armor material. The shields are NIJ Class IIIA stand-alone, which stops a .44 magnum round fired point-blank. With a Kevlar vest backing it up, it stops a steel-jacketed 7.62. Of course it helps if you are my age and played a lot of PONG when you were a kid.

I'd have to see some actual use statistics, but i think its just a scam.

Im sure the material is bulletproof, but look at the mechanics behind it.

That clipboard in the pic is being held and can pivot from left to right.

A 357 or 45 hitting that thing anywhere but the center will spin that clipboard faster than you can find out where the bullet actually hit you.
