Do you look for others like you?

Post by dtalley »

I was checking my weapon this morning before dropping it in my pocket and heading off to Church. I have been CCing for 6 years and never gave it much thought, but for some reason this morning I was wondering who else around me is carrying? I know my wife and my friends that carry but for the first time I wondered who else was in my vacinity is armed. There is another thread about how many people are CHL holders per zipcode. That I was reading a minute ago and decided to post this. I looked all morning and if there was someone they did a good job of concealing. And I mean I looked for all the tell-tell signs and couldn't pick out one (Church, Resturant, Grocery store and pharmacy). I know there are a big amount of CHL holders that do not carry, which I also don't understand but that is a different story.

So, Do you Look for signs that someone around you might be carrying?

Cargo shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, 99% probability. 5.11 shirts if you know what to look for.

Otherwise, you never know. Many members of this forum have met me in person, and perhaps one of them will be bold enough to say that upon first glance, you would not even suspect that I know which end of a gun the bullets come out of.

I long ago got tired of even thinking about whether other people are carrying.

If CC is working as it should, you will get tired looking around. Only novice CCer would give a hint about what is going, mostly readjustment are the worst.

They should take the sex offender map and overlay it with the CHLs that surround them.

Sometimes in public I wonder how many others may be "legally" armed.
I look for it. Especially when standing in line behind someone.

Still haven't had a confirmed sighting.

I have been looking every since I took the class in May. I have yet to find anybody I completely sure about.

I can't "make" plainclothes police officers that I know are carrying. It's just not that difficult to conceal even a full-size service pistol.

Because of all of the discussion on the forum about Hawaiian shirts, I've made it a point to look at those wearing them. I have yet to see one that I would even have considered a possibility. Unlike the Houston suburbs (based on the other thread about the concentration of CHLs there) I suspect that Grapevine, Flower Mound, Lewisville, Carrollton area that I normally frequent doesn't have nearly that many.

Frankly, it isn't the legal ones that I'm looking for.

Probably the Hawaiian shirts are a geographic thing. Meetings of my gun club are a fashion disaster.

Never thought much about it until I took the class, now I'm noticing all the guys my age +/- 10 years in camp shirts or Hawaiian shirts, and wondering.

All this time I thought they were just wearing loose, untucked shirts to hide a less-than-perfect abdomen. :???:

Statistically, 98% of them are.

98% are carrying? or 98% are trying to de-emphasize their abs? :smilelol5:

Nope.
After discovering that carry weapons outnumbered adults around my sister's dinner table one day (I knew most were CHL holders, but not that they carried 24/7)
-and- after stepping back at Top Gun one day only to discover my Next Door Neighbor for the last 12 years in the next lane running all of his carry weapons through the paces, I know that they're more common than you might think. (NDN's comment "well, it looks like we've got the cul-de-sac covered")

I also know that of my 2 sisters, 2 brother in laws, next door neighbor, and husband, the only one who routinely wears hawaiian shirts is the one who does NOT have a CHL (yet) :smilelol5:

You know what I meant. ;-)

98% are trying to be comfortable or have hideous fashion sense. Only about 2% of the adult population has a CHL, and LEOs are fewer in number. Gangsters don't wear Hawaiian shirts here.
