45 GAP Cartridge - How Popular?

Post by Tallinthesaddle »

This cartridge was designed by Glock as an answer to the 45ACP, more or less. Has anyone out there had any experience with this cartridge? Pro or Con?

I can tell you that any time I have ever gone to Academy, they never have 45GAP. That alone will keep me away from any GAP gun. And really, did the 45ACP need an answer? I believe it is the be-all, end-all answer.

It's even less popular than the 10mm Auto and the 357 Sig, from what I've seen.

It answered a question nobody was asking - particularly when Glock was already selling pistols chambered in .45 ACP.

A few LE agencies used or are using it. Like many solutions for problems that never existed .ie .400 CorBon, 10mm, 357 Sig, 41 AE it will eventually fade into obscurity and become a curiosity. The 357 Sig has a reasonable following in LE circles (TX DPS, Secret Service, Air Marshals, and others) but, it isn't popular at all among mainstream shooters.

I know Budsgunshop is selling Glocks in 45GAP for less than $400. But you always have to order ammo on line. Its a powerhouse of a round from what I hear though.

When ammo got scarce, I saw 45 GAP on sale at stores before 45 ACP. Academy where I live does not have 380 for sale except a few days a month.

If you want a "non standard" round to shoot, at least stick with .357SIG.

45GAP makes no sense to me, and I'm a hardcore Glocker. 357SIG _does_ make sense to me; it's like turning your pistol into a carbine

Same thing like Tallinthesaddle said. When there was little ammo on the shelves GAP ammo and .44 mag could still be found. It only makes sense if you must have a Glock and have smaller hands but now they have the SF and Gen 4 has the changeable back straps. I assume within a year or two the other calibers will change as well with back straps. Some like the .357 sig but I saw no point to bother when the recoil is almost as much as the 10mm and the 10mm is by far a more potent cartridge. If Glock had the 10mm SF out when I bought my 27 then I would probably not have bothered with the .40. Actually I hope Glock has a Gen 4 Glock 29 with the changeable back straps in the future so I can trade in my 27. Like we all know, if a cartridge is not adopted by law enforcement or the military it is stuck as niche cartridge.

Oh, if Glock comes out with a 10mm SF or interchangeable backstraps....

IKD... Glock does have an SF model in 10mm and .45acp. I own it!! I own the 20 SF, which is the only way I can get my hands around a 10mm in the Glock platform. Before the SF models I could not shot the 10mm or .45 in a Glock with any comfort because the grip is so big for even a medium size hand. The 29 sf is the same grip width as the 20sf. The sf models are still a little wider in the grip then say a Glock 17 or 23 but for a guy like me with medium hands and long skinny fingers it is decent, could still be better though. That’s why I hope the 10mm and the .45acp get the new 4gen grip with removable back straps at some point. It would make it even better because I felt a new Glock 17 and it is miles ahead of the old G17 for grip comfort.
