New-to-me High Standard .22 Revolver

I've been looking for a .22 revolver for a while now. I wanted something inexpensive but reliable to use for plinking and to introduce new shooters to handguns.

I almost bought a Heritage Rough Rider because it almost fit my needs, but I did not relish the thought of loading/reloading a 6-shot .22 through the loading gate. I really wanted a flip-out cylinder for loading/reloading and SA/DA instead of SA-only.

There was a local gun show this weekend, and here's what I found:



The one on the top looks just like the one I bought. This picture is not of the actual gun I bought, but it is identical to this one. It is a High Standard Sentinel Deluxe model R-107 with a 6-inch barrel, nine-shot cylinder, and SA/DA in .22 LR.

The cylinder locks up tight, no wiggle at all, the forcing cone looks perfect, and the rifling looks good. The only minor issues it has is some of the nickel plating is flaking off of the frame mid-way between the grip and the hammer. Not a huge concern because the frame is aluminum alloy, so it will not rust because of this flaking, and this gun is to be used, not just to look at. Whatever finish might have been on the hammer itself and on the trigger are long gone, but there is no rust there either. I paid $200 for it. Maybe a little more than its book value, but I'd have paid near that for the Heritage Rough Rider that didn't have all these features I wanted.

I haven't got it out to the range yet, but that's coming soon. Let's hear it for shooting all day with $20 worth of ammo!

Years ago this was the first pistol I ever bought.
It was accurate and fun to shoot. It was lightweight
and I could carry the weapon and more than enough shells
for an all day walk in west Texas. Used it for breakfast, lunch and
dinner many times.
Mine was blue and a 4”.

I inherited Dad's Sentinel, 6" nickel with the white grips. The plating turned satin, which I don't mind at all.
It has always been an accurate, easy shooting revolver. Nice short action, nine shots, I like it very much.

Nice find. They seem to be rare now, but there used to be many High Standard .22 revolvers around. They were relatively inexpensive and decent quality guns that were put in tackle boxes or used for plinking around the camp. Maybe they all got rusted from sitting in the tackle box.
