Deep Breath of the Gold Cup Ether

Post by doc540 »

Been in the ether for about a month now, so this will be my first GC.

Today I committed to buy this one:

1978

Based on a few good pictures and a reasonable price, I'm going for it. :txflag:

Nice! What is the benefit of spending the cheese on the Gold Cup?

About the same as buying a '69 396 Chevelle with drum brakes. :thumbs2:

:iagree: AND I would state that price being right, I'd buy either or both!!!

You'll like that Gold Cup. They're great pistols, especially considering what they represent to the industry, and when they were marketed...

We 1911 types take for granted the advances in "out of the box" the Gold Cup brought us...based on the work of many fine pistolsmiths from years past.

Well drum brakes stink even with power assist...69 Chevelle or not! I guess they were the performance center of the ol' days?

Yeah, the analogy was meant to communicate that modern guns may have advanced and improved in many areas over the Gold Cups of 30 years ago, but the Gold Cup still stirs primal connections like lighting up bias ply tires going into third gear at 70+mph. :cheers2:

LOL Yeah but drum brakes don't help with that. I get what you are saying though...burnouts in general are a thing of the past. Tires are too expensive on newer cars and traction control is only cool when it saves you from crashing.

Yup! You had to really drive the cars back then. No sitting behind the wheel with the cruise control on while you texted your BFF in those days!

We had to do all sorts of goofy stuff, like watch the road well ahead of your car.

Ok, I have a Gold Cup and a '67 Chevelle with drum brakes, change is something for the young :). P.S. I am happy with both in their proper situations.
