I got bit by a Coyote! (LCP - will etching rub off?)

Post by mctowalot »

I spent the extra $40.00 and got the Gov. Perry special LCP ( :txflag:). I intend on carrying it IWB. Will this harm the etching, and if so is there a way to prevent that?

Thanks!

I am glad someone asked this. I want one just for .... well, I just want one. But I want to carry it too. so I hope we get some info on HOW the graphics are applied and if they hold up to at least simple use wear and tear. BTW, where did you get yorus? I want one regardless.

if you want to carry an LCP why not just carry the 40.00 cheaper version and not have to worry about the screen printing?
Mine is just sitting in the safe....with all papers, receipt and original packaging.
FWIW, I've seen brand new Coyote Specials in cases at various stores that have had some of the extra 40.00 already rubbing off.....and thats for whatever reason, and it hasn't been carried or holstered.

In my experience, if you intend to carry a gun with you, it is going to wear the finish. There is no way around this. Nylon, Kydex, Leather, they will all wear the finish on a gun if it's carried in them.

:iagree: If you want to keep it in like new condition, DON'T carry it. Just buy the standard model for carry.

Why the etching you ask? Because its there!

Honestly I find the etching humorous, it is a little mouse gun after all, but since I can't have his awesome hair (I'm folicly challanged) at least I can carry his gun :biggrinjester:.

Actually I think it was a great move on Perry's part to get the Coyote incident publicized (whether it really happened or not). I have this picture in my head of Bill White jogging every morning just hoping an aggressive critter will come his way so he can one up Perry. Maybe he could go jogging on the banks of Buffalo Bayou and bag an Alligator! Or at least a really big rat...

But I digress. I spent the extra smackers so that when my children inherit my guns this one will have a little extra sentimental value. Who knows, maybe they'll look up Perry and learn about the great campaign antics of 2010.

FWIW, I'm unable to carry a larger, heavier gun IWB due to recent abdominal surgery. I pocket carry a snubnose .357 but had to admit to myself that I'm not skilled in the art of "pocket drawing". For me it just takes to long, especially when seated (driving).

Whoops. Got caught up and neglected to answer gwashorn's question. I got mine at the Academy on the Southworst Freeway near Kirby.$359.00 gets you the gun (w/ awesome graphics:mrgreen:), a box marked "for Texans only", and a giant padlock bigger than the gun. Oddly, it came with only one magazine but they have Promag brand magazines for $25.00

Oh, and my walk-in gun vault is simply bursting at the seams with rare collectibles and the associated boxes and papers, so there's no room for another "safe queen". ;-)

It it really etched or just painted on? Real etching shouldn't wear under normal conditions but paint and other coloring does.

Researching, no mention on Ruger's site that I could find. It's certainly not engraved.

Well, I'm googling away and not having much luck. There's a lot of ads. and some say engraved while others say etched. A few even combine the terms "engraved/etched".

I was thinking engraved indicated recessed metal. Maybe some thick coats of varnish would do the trick...

LOL, I am so glad I asked today. I needed a good laugh. yes, I agree it is a safe queen gun and not for carry. So I will go it that way. Love this forum.

I don't mean to flaunt my vast wealth, but I've decided I'm going to carry mine anyway,

To heck with the $40.00 paint/etching/engraving!

It goes nicely with my fake-diamond encrusted mini-revolver.
Good day! :tiphat:

I'm wondering if a few layers of clear coat would do the trick.

It's smooth on mine so I think it's probably just screen printed on.
