1911 sear issue

Post by rm9792 »

I have a GI Springfield that will release the hammer fine when simply cocking it but if you rack the slide you cant get it to drop. To release the hammer I have to pull the MSH and grip safety to pull the hammer down a little more then it releases fine. If I reassemble it works great till you rack the slide then gets stuck again. I am lost. Only interaction between the fire control group and the slide would be the disconnector. maybe too short but that shouldnt stop it from releasing. If I pull the slide off I can dry fire all I want. Put the slide on, rack it and locked again.

Is the sear spring positioned correctly? The sear spring should have 1 tang on the sear (Leftmost), one on the disconnector(Center) and one raised for the grip safety (Rightmost). if one of the tangs are below something then you could actually see the issue you describe occur. If the sear spring is in place correctly then My advice is the remove the grip safety and watch what happens when working the slide Vs what happens when cocking by hand.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Looks like disconnector was bad, replaced and all ok.

glad to hear that its fixed, I have never heard of a bad disconnector on a new gun though. I'll have to remember this one, for when the Springfield guys start talking trash again.

Lord no it wasnt a new gun. I got it off TGT a while back and have never fired it. Does look like it is a stock disco though. I put in a shiny new Les Baer from another gun and worked fine so need to order a new one I guess.
