Metro carry

i thought the city couldn't resrict CHL'ers from carrying on City property.

no where in the code does it say that City busses are off limits to carry and i haven't seen a 30.06 on any bus.

can you show me where you found out you can't carry on Houston metro?

I thought the 30.06 only applied to private businesses. But if you look at any of the Metro bus stop bench covers I think you will find a sign that says no handguns allowed or something to that effect. In fact, and I'll have to double check my manuel, I think one of the place carrying is off limits is public transportation vehicle. They can restrict you from carrying on city property. Like you can't carry in city Hall because it's a governmental building or an HISD school because it's a governmental building
Seems ridiculous I know, but you can't even carry a gun in a little post office (yes I mean the little ones about the size of a port-o-let in caution light towns), or a national park a parade or a sports event like at the Astrodome or Minute Maid park or I think even state parks.

correct me if i'm wrong but i think you CAN carry on Metro. i agree with him that you can't carry at Minute Maid Park but thats cause of the Pro Sporting events clause. but you can carry say at the GRB which is City property.

I haven't had time to check THR, but much of what you quoted on your post from the other follow is wrong. 1) you can carry on Metro vehicles and in their offices. It's been this way since 1997, but Metro only recently admitted it when Jerry Patterson and others sued Metro. Their "no gun" signs mean nothing to CHL's. 2) There is no blanket prohibition for CHL in all government buildings; only selected ones like courthouses, schools, jails, etc., but city hall isn't one of them. He's right about post offices and National Parks, but not about parades in general.

Most, if not all, National Parks are off-limits, but not necessarily other parks. City parks and county parks are fine for CHL's. Iâ€™ll check on Texas State Parks; Iâ€™m not sure at this point as there may be something in the Parks & Wildlife Code, but I donâ€™t think so.

I found this on their web site:

Arms and Firearms.
It is an offense to:
1. possess a firearm with a cartridge or projectile in any portion of the mechanism, except when authorized by the commission or the director;
2. display a firearm, except when authorized by the director; and
3. discharge across, in, or into a state park any arm, firearm, or device capable of injuring or killing any person or animal or damaging or destroying public or private property except when authorized by the director.

So, I guess you can carry one as long as it is not loaded? Holster with gun and mag in pouch attached to the holster??

I never even considered that it might be illegal when I carried all weekend at the State Park at Lake Whitney. The thought never even crossed my mind. So...IS it illegal for a CHL holder to carry in a state park? At Whitney they had a sign posted that said no firearms but I ignored it like I do any other sign of that nature.

In our CHL class, our instructor said concealed carry IS legal (with CHL) in Texas State Parks. There is a letter from the head of the state parks stating that carry is legal, except on occasional basis when there may be a special event at a park.

My CHL instructor also said carry in a Corp of Engineers Park was illegal due to the fact that they are federal property.

Disclaimer: Don't take it from me, independently verify, but I believe the above to be true. I'll try to find where I saw the letter stating CHL carry was legal.

The director can "reserve the right" all he wants, but I don't believe he has the authority to restrict carry beyond what the law says.

Check to Parks and Wildlife Code as there are certain areas that are prohibited on a case by case basis. I believe they can be found in that book you get when you by a hunting license.

Am I talking out of my butt here, or has anyone else read that in there as well.
