Superman Syndrome
The Tennessee teacher who fired reportedly fired several rounds from an EBR and held a group of teenage ghost hunters at gunpoint in a cemetery will be dealing with the aftermath of having donned his Superman suit without first either putting his brain into gear or reading the law for quite some time.

Re: Superman Syndrome
Strange story - the arrestee sounds like cop wannabe dealing with people he thought were trespassers or vandals. (A generation or two ago, maybe . . . depending on the actual circumstances. But a really, really bad idea in 2010.)

Re: Superman Syndrome
Another teacher story, sounds like this teacher had an identity crisis and thought he was a police officer. Well don't hold it against all the good teachers out there. When school gets out for the day the last thing most teachers are worried about is policing students or any teenager for that matter. Guy probably has some serious control freak issues.

In places like that, DON'T GET INVOLVED.
Chumps don't want no help, chumps don't get no help.
- Grave robbers? Don't get involved.
- Convenience store robbers? Don't get involved.
- A stranger possibly getting raped? Don't get involved.
- A police officer getting beat down by suspects? Don't get involved.
Chumps don't want no help, chumps don't get no help.
Re: Superman Syndrome
What an unfortunate name to grow up with especially for a man. His parents should be in prison for child cruelty.
Also kids these days would never rob a grave. Too much effort for too little reward.
I can't say I'd walk away from a rape or a cop getting beat up. I'm not a profiler but it seems to me rapist are cowards that will run away if the are in risk of getting caught in the act.

2.Probably observe, call police, stay out of it UNLESS I (or family) am in the store and personally threatened. Situation will determine
the reaction/response.
3.Probably do whatever I could to assist someones Mother,Daughter,Wife or Sister from being raped, and I hope other
Texans would man up and do the same. That's not being Superman, that's common decency.
4.If the Leo's in the wrong, I'm all over it. BUT,I also support LEO's, know they have a tough job, and yes, I would
try to help a officer keep from getting a beat down. By whatever level of force that may be necessary to assist.

I understand not getting involved in a situation that could potentially get me killed, but there are a few situations where I believe it would be my duty to step in and try my best to help. If I was witness to a rape (or any sex crime for that matter), you had better believe that I'm going in with everything I've got. That is someone's mother, daughter, or sister out there! I'm not saying that it's a mandatory thing for everyone, but I refuse to just look the other way while someone is being raped. If I get killed helping someone in this situation, then so be it, I've already made my peace with that.
If I had the choice of watching a person (LEO or not) get beaten to death, or crouching behind a garbage can calling 911 and waiting for help to arrive too late... I'd call 911 if time presented itself, and help however I could. If that involves taking cover and firing at the assailants to stop the threat, then I'm personally willing to do that.
I got my CHL to protect myself and my family, and I don't believe it's a Batman License by any means. However, I personally could not have a handgun on me and watch an innocent person getting beaten to death or raped without trying to help. I'm not condemning anyone who would not help in a situation like that, but if it were any of my family in a sticky situation like that, I would like to think that someone would help them.
Just my take on it anyway. I'm not trying to judge anyone who wouldn't personally take on these situations. I understand that we all have families that we would like to come home to. This is my opinion and personal choice. I thought about all of this long before I got my CHL. I would think that most of us thought about things like this, and came to a conclusion of potential "what if's" and what we would/should I do in those situations.

Re: Superman Syndrome
boba,
I have to wholeheartedly disagree with you. At the very least I will be a good witness and call the police. If I see somebody getting raped or a LEO getting "beat down" you are darned right I am going to get involved. I cannot standby and watch as somebody is being harmed (with or without a handgun).

Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post. If you are saying that you would try to stop a rape in progress, or defend a person getting "beat down", then you are agreeing with my post. I was posting my agreement with gemini's reply, not boba's original post. I'm therefore assuming that you meant to say you "wholeheartedly AGREE" with me instead.
If we are in fact in disagreement, could you explain your exact disagreement with my post to clear things up.I'm not trying to provoke, I'm just trying to clarify so I know what was meant.

No NOS you are not reading it wrong. I made a huge mistake. I read the post wrong and read that you had posted what boba actually did. I am really sorry. My fault. I fixed it. I really have no clue how I got that. I feel like a real donkey.

I actually had to look back and read my post, to make sure I hadn't made a mistake on my part. I'm not always the "Sharpest loaf of bread in the elevator"!
