No thanks had my fill of static line and free fall. Non Military free fall is fun, but pricey.

It was the military free fall that got a lot of my friends addicted, and the private skydiving afterwards that cost them the money.

As a ROTC cadet, I got to attend the Army Airborne School at Ft Benning. In July. That was a bit of work, but the jumps were great. My Dad was impressed by that, so when he turned 65 he and another guy went and did a jump, a tandem one I guess, for his birthday. I was stationed far away so didn't get to see it, but he told me that as he left the house, Mom said, "make sure the insurance is paid up."

He liked it so much, he did it again for every birthday until he was 70.

Fortunately, I don't have to bear the expense of skydiving. As a young 1st Lt. I fractured my pelvis in 3 places off the 250' tower at Ft. Benning in 1968 Ortho surgeon said "never go back and jump again," so I went to flight school instead after I healed I hope they are not still using the T-10 parachute that guarantees an "exciting" landing?

I've been tossing around the idea of skydiving for the last few years. I'd like to try it and see if I get hooked, but I have trouble even getting onto a roller coaster

Have fun! Just remember to spring for the video/camera flyer if you can. It's worth the extra $$ to get a good freefall video, and most people have so much sensory overload that they don't remember much.

By the way, there's no such thing as a "perfectly good airplane." You should see some of the planes I jumped out of when I was actively skydiving several years ago. I'm just sayin'....

The tower was the spookiest part of jump school, your just hanging there waiting your turn in the silence. The chutes used do guarranty an exciting landing.

December '87 I recieved by "Blood Wings" for those of you in the know. Looked like I had been bitten by a 5' snake, bruised for 3 weeks.

I bet in the PC world of today blood wings are a thing of the past, like so many other traditions.
