Probably most forum members are familiar with Gunvault and their small quick-open ergonomic combination safes. They have been around at least 12 years now. You can station the little safes at strategic points in your home and set them all to the same combination. They keep your guns safe from kids but are not the greatest if someone broke into your house with you not there. Even if you anchored them down, they can be pryed away and carried off. So when leaving home for extended periods I typically remove guns from them and place them in my larger safe.
I have two mini gunvaults, one of them I bought almost as soon as they came available (early 90s). They are incredibly reliable and easy to use, even in the dark. They have had a bio (thumbprint) version out for awhile. I have not tried one of them, partly because I am so accustomed and comfortable with my manual versions.
Cannon bought Gunvault a couple of years ago and almost immediately began making large safes with Gunvault's quick-open keypad. I love this concept because it allows for longer guns like pistol carbines, ARs, shotguns to be accessed rapidly. And you get large safe security advantages.
I am hoping there is forum member or two that can comment on these new safes as far as reliabilty, etc. I expect that they are very good. The gunvault key pad and latch mecahanism is great and Cannon large safes are pretty good. But how well do the two work together? I am considering purchasing one of these, so any feed back would be appreciated.
Thanks

16ga steel? Um, can't you penetrate that with a simple hatchet? That seems kinda thin.
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.
Re: Cannon's Large Gunvault Safes
I know of one review on these forums, and it was negative:

Re: Cannon's Large Gunvault Safes
Thanks guys!
It never occurred to me to do a word search. (NcongruNt's reply reminded me). A word search for Gunvault gets 124 matches on 9 pages. Without doing scientific, detailed, count (just sampling a few pages), it looked like about 2 out of 10 messages were negative. (The remaining messages were an even split between positive and neutral).
Pardon for repeating my original message, I have had great luck with my two GV1000s. However, I am now convinced not to get the large safe. There seems to be plenty of cases where forum members have had problems with little GVs. Both large and small are based on the same keypad and latch mechanism. However, there is a big difference in having problems with a GV1000 (>$100) and a large safe ($800-$900).
Also, I guess there are very few if any forum members that have purchased one of the large Gunvault safes.
Also, the report NcongruNt attached in his reply (by Syntax360) was very well done! I doubt he'd be very interested in purchasing a Large Gunvault safe.
