Have a Ruger P-85 (MKII) but am new to CHL. . . planned on that one being what I carry when I'm finished with class (next week) and have plastic in hand (couple months????). . . any thoughts? concerns? suggestions?? It will be IWB probably with a Supertuck. . . wear business clothes daily and very seldom with a jacket or blazer. . .
Most of my friends that I know with their CHL are advising me to carry a .380 or get a compact 9 mm. . .the advice on this board seems much more sound though, so I thought I better throw it out there. . .
Ruger P-85???

Re: Ruger P-85???
Your Ruger is a great gun, but there are definitely more comfortable (read thinner) options out there. As a matter of fact, just about anything would be easier to carry than a P85. While some people do carry these IWB, I assure you the list is not very long. Let us know what you decide! Take care and best of luck on your decision.

Re: Ruger P-85???
I agree with jbirds. The Ruger is a great gun. Tough, will last forever. I kinda like slim, light, easy to carry and conceal myself.
I would suggest not jumping into anything. Talk with your friends, see what they carry and try theirs. The holster can make all the difference in the world. Besides new CHLers feel like they have a cement block on their belt and everyone has Xray vision.
Don't buy before you try........
My favorite after many years is a Kahr PM9. There are days I forget I have it on....
thanks,
George

Re: Ruger P-85???
Good advice so far, and I'd also be concerned that P85 is a bit thick for IWB. I carry Glocks in a Supertuck and that's about as thick as I'd want to go - I think the P85 is thicker.
When dressed for "business" as you describe, I carry a Walther PPS in a Supertuck and it works nicely. Of course the old standby of dropping a 5-shot snub-nose revolver in a front pocket will probably work too. Or a .380 like an LCP or KelTec.
If you really like Ruger, take a look at the newer SR9 series - regular or compact frame size. These are considerably thinner than the old P-series. Thinner than Glocks too. Nice guns from what I hear - though have only fondled them and not shot one.
