Sig P238

Ok...all you experienced gun owners. What is everyone's opinion about the Sig P238? What's good and what's bad about it?

Good: Really nice trigger. Bad: Be prepared to pay substantial bucks for it. But, hey, it's got Sig's name on it.

Never shot the 238. Mom & Wife both carry a 232. Sweet shooters. I have shot a 239. Very fine for SA/DA.

I'm pretty sure there are a few threads on it around here, so you might be able to find some decent info there.

As for price, I was at Academy the other day and they had the Plain Jane model for $500, which doesn't seem too bad given it is a Sig.


For guns that size I would rather have a revolver, or go a little bigger to something like a P239 or RAMI, both of which may be in my future. That being said, for small .380 guns the Sig is probably one of the nicer shooting ones.

TLynn they are great little guns, I don't think you can go wrong with one. As said the triggers are great and Colt mags will work if you tweak the follower a little. Accuracy was very surprising on the two we have, wife consistently had hits on cans at 15 yards. If you buy one you will like it.

I have shot one and I liked it. It has hardly any recoil, easy to get a sight picture and wouldn't be hard to break down & reassemble for cleaning. My only complaint is the cost of the ammo and difficulty locating it. It IS becoming more available, but still very expensive to go practicing with.

My wife fell in love with it when she rented one at the Arms Room three weeks ago. That was an expensive shooting night BUT, I am glad she found a carry weapon she likes and will carry. It shoots nice, easy to handle and we both shot well with it. Rent one to try it out.

By far the best small 380 on the market. Real sights, night sights if you want them and accurate at 50 feet, low recoil and a very nice trigger. If you shoot an LCP, Bersa or other small 380 you will soon realize that they are not even in the same ballpark as the 238...

Where do you live? If anywhere close you can shoot mine. I am able to fine ammo at $300 for a K pretty often.

Yes, thank you, cajunautoxer!!! Sometimes I get so excited when I have a question about a new gun that I fail to remember the search feature. It usually doesn't take too long for someone to remind that I flubbed it again. I do appreciate the reminder. One day I'll actually remember before I begin to type.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I have a confession to make. I put one on layaway last night. It was a total impulse purchase (I really must stay out of The Arms Room). But I don't regret it. It does sound like the majority of the ones that posted here are quite happy with theirs. The link provided above does paint a bit of a different picture. I guess I'll just have to shoot one and find out.
