Why should I keep them

OK... I have made the decision that in my opinion, striker based pistols are the answer for carry. Without discussing if my decision is right or not, why would I want to keep my various hammer (DA /SA) based carry caliber pistols around (no.. The 1911 variants stay til heck freezes over, as do the .22s) as other than testaments to a obsolete technology? I hate to part with any firearm, but I have several of each and they need to have some compelling reason to stay with me.

Aww man.. and I was willing to relieve you of all your 1911 variants quite quickly, had you been wanting to get rid of them in a hurry too....

If you're not into collecting, or the history of firearms, or simply owning fine examples of the pinnacle of technology from the past, by all means, sell them.

Just keep in mind that firearms are financial investments as well. Lots of them hold, and gain, much financial value.

What are your DA/SA guns? Some may hold value or increase in value more than others.

As long as we keep voting on a token Democrat president every 8-12 years, you can always plan on a nice price spike and sell when prices are high

OK, I'll go against the flow. If you don't have a real sentimental attachment to any of them, by all means, sell them. Then use the proceeds to fill holes in your current collection, or buy something nice for the kids or the wife, should you have either/both. Use it to stock up on ammo. Use it for a reloading setup.

Of course, if you have room to spare in the safe, hang on to them for when the next panic drives prices way up. Sure, some guns do appreciate in value, but not like a Remington Rand 1911 in 95%+ condition.

I actually understand your dilemma. I own (and carry) 1911s and would not part with them. I think they really are the perfect pistol. And I'll keep my Ruger .22 - finicky disassembly/reassembly routine notwithstanding. But I made the transition from a hammer fired USP Compact in .40 S&W to a striker fired M&P in .45 ACP, and I agree that the striker fired pistols are very, VERY convenient for carry. In fact, the next time I buy a striker fired gun, I won't worry about whether or not it has a frame-mounted thumb safety like mine has, because it really isn't needed as long as one is careful and observes the 4 rules.

That said, I really liked my USPc, I just didn't like the caliber. Mine had an ambi-safety/decocker, and I liked that I had the option of carrying it cocked and locked or decocked. I've stated before that, had I bought one in .45 from the get-go, I would have probably never sold it. However, if I hadn't, I would not likely have learned to like a striker fired pistol, and I am glad that I did. (It helps that my particular striker fired pistol has a trigger job from the S&W custom shop.)

I will likely continue to carry 1911s, and I definitely see more striker fired pistols in my future, but I have to say that if I ever seen one at the right price and I have the money for it, I would like to own another USP Compact, but in .45, this time.

Don't sell any firearm if you are anything like me. I kick myself for every gun I ever sold and I wish I had every one of them back. Even the Glocks. I don't even like Glocks but the one I have left, I ain't sellin.

I too buy and sell quite often based on what I want at that time. I also kick myself for every gun I have sold or traded. At the time of the transaction I always have my sights set on something else though. Hindsight is always 20/20. I say keep them because your wants and needs change over time. The hammer fired SA/DA pistols offer second strike and the added feature of a thumb safety or decocker usually and that is something that MOST striker fired pistols will not offer. I know there are a few with thumb safeties, in select calibers only though.

If you need the money then by all means sell sell sell...if not why unload if you don't need to.
