looking for a nock off eotech or decent red dot . Also open to suggestions have a little cash but would like to keep it fairly cheap.

Millett has some good inexpensive optics. 1-4x red-dot scope or a 1x aimpoint-type red dot each less than $250

I found a used Comp ML3 for $275 with mount and rubber cover.

I swapped the mount for a Larue. It took a while to find the "right" setup but the deals are out there. I would cross post to like 20 forums, and check arf religiously.

That said, I used searchtempest to search the entire craigslist and found my optic in TN.


ETA: Also read the arf articles on spotting fakes. Ask for pictures of the inside of the battery well and the reticle adjustments.

I've seen some knockoffs on http://www.texasguntrader.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for this price. Also try eBay - tons of this stuff on eBay.

For new, I've shot through a TruGlo red dot before and it was better than expected. Not going to make me forget my EOTech, but a good optic for the money. Also Bushnell sells some kinda ACOG-looking knockoff for about $150 at Academy. And of course they have the "unarmored" EOTech for about $300 new (it's a "real" EOTech site - just without the heavy duty extra hunk of metal "helmet" that comes on the real thing.

The Vortex Strikefire is a nice little red dot in the 130.00-150.00 range. I have one on my AR, works very well.

The Strikefire is a good value red dot, and Vortex has a good warranty.

What's a "decent" red dot?

Is this going to be a regularly shot weapon? Is this your go to gun when the sky falls in? Will it be man-handled and abused?

Few of the brands listed would be found on a comabt/working weapon. However, if it is for fun, then you should be fine with even less than 150.

My humble opinion is to save a little more and get a QUALITY, used, combat proven optic, at a good price. In the mean time get quick and smooth with irons. I realize this is unsolicited, so I won't be offended if it's not taken.

I agree with Gigag04. In my view, life safety gear isn't the place to go cheap. However, it sometimes makes sense to go that way for toys that won't be used too hard or too much. I wouldn't pick up a climbing rope I'd hang off a cliff from at the Dollar Store, but I'd buy their product for cutting up into lengths and lashing stuff to my car top rack.

High quality and durability cost more, but when a product is part of what stands between you and death, it's not going to help your survival odds to work with a fragile or mediocre toy.

This is going to be my in case of red dawn weapon. I also need to get some iron sights for it. I plan on getting a nice set of optics down the road but im just stoked my wife gave in to the AR idea. So im just looking for optics that i can play with for now. Thanks everyone for the suggestions/comments i will have plenty more questions because i am new to the AR scene.

Look at the C-More sights. I've had one and have no issues with it. I also have a Bushnell that looks like the Eotech but not built as solid. Not alot of money but have been great on my rifles. But like I've always said my S12 is my bump in the night rifle

I like the CSAT iron sights. Also the LMT sights on my rifle are fixed, which I like. I have never seen someone in combat have time to stop, and flip up their iron sights. I use fixed sights and have my Aimpoint setup with the irons in the bottom third. That's what I am comfortable with based on the environment that I operate in.

Yours may be different. Good luck whatever you chose and make sure it suits you...not us.
