First off lets get the critical info out of the way, no injuries and only minor damage to my truck. so here's what happened: I was on my way home in my pickup (Daily driver) with supplies to change the oil in another vehicle when I stopped at a stop sign. I had my left signal on, and was preparing to make a turn when a black car eased up behind me. The car was a little close I rolled forward a little (as far as I could legally) and the next thing I know I was hit. I pulled across the street and cleared the intersection, called the police (non-emergency number) and reported the accident. While waiting on the officers I secured my firearms (primary and backup) in the vehicle and waited for the officers. Upon their arrival I approached the first officer and gave him my DL and CHL and advised him that I had secured the firearms and where they were located. At this point t first officer recorded my info and his attention became focused on the other driver once he handed me my DL and CHL back. I placed both on the dash of my truck where they were visible (for the second officer who I knew was on his way). No tickets were issued, the black car had almost no damage while my truck will need a little TLC on the bumper. I would like to give Seminole PD a big shout out for professionalism and a quick response to a non-emergency call.

Primarly for the comfort of the officers. Additionally I had easy access to them if needed so it was a non issue.

That's the only reason I see for not citing the driver for fail to control speed.

It was the CR-2 (Blue Form). Interestingly enough the other vehicle showed no damage, however I suspect the actual bumper (not the fiberglass cover) is damaged, although it can not be seen.

I personally will fight tooth and nail to have a full CR-3 done on MY own accidents. I got blue formed by DPS, and the damage was over $1000 and the guy didn't have insurance.

Sometimes the blue form promotes laziness but it is a good tool when used correctly.

not meaning to hijack the thread but, I would like to know the difference between the "blue form" and cr-3... Just in case, heaven forbid, I get into an accident. I really don't know anything about those forms. Thank you in advance.

CR-3 is the regular accident report completed by the Peace Officer

CR-2 is a scaled down version given to the involved parties in a minor crash with damage under $1000/vehicle. The drivers exchange info, and complete their own copy to mail to Austin.

CR-2 is also required if there's more than $1000 damage and the police don't come. DPS has the form online for the drivers to print and mail in.

A conversation I was having with a friend (who is also a CHL) about this brought up why I thought the officers comfort was important. In essence I did not know before the officers arrival who was being dispatched to my incident, so I was unaware of their familiarity with my particular weapons, now would I know if they wished to disarm me. By disarming myself AND securing the weapons where I still had relatively easy access I ensured that the officers interest in them was minimized, and I could access my weapons if needed. The reason I wished to minimize the officers interest in my weapons is because, as I said earlier, I did not know how familiar the officers would be with my weapons (I was carrying my XDm-40 and my LCP). For all I knew the only handguns they were familiar with would be the Glock or Sig they shot at school and the Kimber Eclipse that SPD issued them.

Some people who know me maybe asking why I wasn't carrying my usual Kimber, the answer to that is because I had taken it to the range earlier and had yet to clean it.

i was on the other side of this fence about a month ago, I hit someone… apparently I was following about 3’ too close in the rain… she had her tailgate down and to took out my rad and transcooler ect… I was not driving anywhere.

I did not disarm, as I did not want the other driver to see, and it was not a great neighborhood.

Handed cop ID and CHL, he asked me to store it.

I VERY politely asked if he was sure, as I’m about to be towed,

He looked at me and said “ok, your right”
I VERY politely made sure he was ok with that,,, and he did not seem to care.

It was a non issue,

I’d not disarm before the cops got there,,, what if the other driver went from cool to nuts nuts, or a family member drove buy and went nuts ect… tensions can be high with auto damage,,, I’d want mine with me.

I've heard that some municipalities have the policy that if the office did not witness the accident, and there were no injuries involved, then no citations are issued. I've been rear-ended twice in San Antonio and the other party was not cited.

In my situation securing my weapons off of my person did not limit my access to them. I first called the dispatcher while I checked my damage, and his apparent lack of damage. Once I was certain that the situation was reported and under relative control I suggested that we both wait in our vehicles. Once he was in his I secured my weapons in a manner that gave me ready access to them (I was not disarmed). The other driver never had a chance to see my weapons, nor did anyone else. The fact that tempers can run hot in an accident is the main reason I had the comfort of the officers in mind, they did not know how I was going to react. Additionally I would rather not spend the entire stop with my hands in a "weird" position as my weapons are carried in a manner that gives me easy access when my hands in a normal position. Now why would my hands be in a weird position? The reason for that is because the officers will at the very least instruct me to keep my hands away from the weapons.

For the record if you read my posts I NEVER said I disarmed. My weapons may have been secured off my person, however I remained close to them and I still had complete and ready access to them should the need arise.
