Why are the independents/libertarians counted on side of the Democrats when counting for the majority is the House and Senate?
I know this is not totally gun related.

They're not, automatically. They're counted for the side they intend to "caucus" with. In other words, with whom they'll vote for Speaker.dws1117 wrote:Why are the independents/libertarians counted on side of the Democrats when counting for the majority is the House and Senate?
Joe Lieberman ran officially as an I, but in reality he's a D, and got counted as such. Bernie Sanders runs as an I, because it's impolitic to run as a Socialist, although he openly declares that to be his political leaning. But, since he caucuses with the Democrats, he gets lumped in with them for determining control of the House/Senate.
