A man honers his word at all costs.
I'd like to add to honor his commitments/obligations as well. It sickens me when I read of all the people that walk away from their mortgage, even though they can afford it, because the "value" has gone down.

On another note, I'd say a man is one who values life so much that can cry when a pet dies, but wouldn't hesitate to take out a criminal or thug who intends harm to you, your family, loved ones, or any other innocent person.

Some things never change. It's like mom making you clean your room before you could go out to play. ;-)

The Bard says it well:

Is there for honest Poverty
That hings his head, an' a' that;
The coward slave-we pass him by,
We dare be poor for a' that!
For a' that, an' a' that.
Our toils obscure an' a' that,
The rank is but the guinea's stamp,
The Man's the gowd for a' that.

What though on hamely fare we dine,
Wear hoddin grey, an' a that;
Gie fools their silks, and knaves their wine;
A Man's a Man for a' that:
For a' that, and a' that,
Their tinsel show, an' a' that;
The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor,
Is king o' men for a' that.

Ye see yon birkie, ca'd a lord,
Wha struts, an' stares, an' a' that;
Tho' hundreds worship at his word,
He's but a coof for a' that:
For a' that, an' a' that,
His ribband, star, an' a' that:
The man o' independent mind
He looks an' laughs at a' that.

A prince can mak a belted knight,
A marquis, duke, an' a' that;
But an honest man's abon his might,
Gude faith, he maunna fa' that!
For a' that, an' a' that,
Their dignities an' a' that;
The pith o' sense, an' pride o' worth,
Are higher rank than a' that.

Then let us pray that come it may,
(As come it will for a' that,)
That Sense and Worth, o'er a' the earth,
Shall bear the gree, an' a' that.
For a' that, an' a' that,
It's coming yet for a' that,
That Man to Man, the world o'er,
Shall brothers be for a' that.

It took me awhile to figure out how to say this:

I consider myself fortunate to have found this forum and I'm glad (for lack of a better word) that you folks are here. The benefits of having your thoughts on certain subjects are not lost on me. :tiphat:

A man can pray, weep, sacrifice, suffer, and provide charity to someone he doesn't know with zero expectation of return. I use a males willingness to help a child as a barometer of their manhood. See my signature line for a statement I read each day before going to work. I have the honor of knowing a few "men" and cherish their friendship.

Thanks for the answers that give me hope that real manhood has not died out. I have been sorely disappointed in some of the examples I have been around of late.
It is the duty of men to be the shining examples of manhood that has lifted up their wives, children, churches, and our country for generations. Some of the answers here tell me there are still real men who care about being those examples. God bless you!
