Shooting Glasses bifocals
OK, like many of us, the eyes ain't what they used to be. I wear contacts to distance, sports etc and reading glasses for well.... reading. Right now, fiber optics on the gun to see the sights even if not focused and I see the target. Works OK. I know some here, Charles, use the stick on contacts on their shooting glasses in the upper area of the lens. Lean down when shooting and it puts it in line with the sights so they are in focus. My wife has the stick on Optix 20/20 stick on bifocals on her sunglasses and they work well. I tried a set and they will NOT stay stuck on my shooting glasses. When they were on them, they did seem to make sighting easier. So question number one, how are you making your stick on lens stay stuck? Which ones are you using? I can only find the Optix brand like my wife and they are thick and not real flexible. I think that is why they do not stay on. Charles, which ones you using? Are they real thin or a bit thicker? I have found shooting glasses with the lens in the top but those are like $200. Looking for options here. Thanks
Gary

Re: Shooting Glasses bifocals
I get mine from Hidalgo Supply. http://www.hidalgos.com/products/Stick% ... vable.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; They used to have +1.0 but now the lowest power is 1.25 so I'll be trying those next. That will probably work.
They are on the thick side, but I haven't had any trouble getting them to stick on glass or plastic lenses. Just get the lenses and stick-on's wet and and you can move them around. I trimmed mine a little bit at a time until I don't look through them until I duck my head while shooting.
Also, try putting it only on your dominant eye and I think you'll like that much better two. The dominant eye sees the front sight clearly but without additional magnification on the weak eye, the target isn't blurrier as it would be if you used two stick-ons.

Re: Shooting Glasses bifocals
Charles, thanks and those look like the ones my wife has and the extra pair she had to try. I did all the stick on cleaned, wet, blodded etc and let them dry for 12 hours. Pick up the glasses, two differen pairs, put them on and the fall off. both are plastic safety lens. One is industrial pair and one is sold as shooting glasses. I understand the method it sticks but that can be affected by the porosity of the lens. I may try ordering a pair of these you linked to and try. Besides my wifes is a bit too strong. I want it to barely make the sights a bit more in focus so they don't affect the distance as much. Yes, I only do on eye, right dominant since I do some both eyes open shooting on the closer targets. I need to practice that a bit more for target shooting. I do appreciate the info. The fiber optic sights do help but the indoor shooting they don't light up much like outside. See you at the next matches.
I just ordered a set of 1.25 power lens.

Re: Shooting Glasses bifocals
My safety glasses and sunglasses fit over my bifocals. I could no way afford "specialty" glasses. They are comfortable, and unlike the Rx goggles don't fog up.

Re: Shooting Glasses bifocals
My wife is cross dominant; left handed and right eye dominant. I'm going to try putting one of the stick-on bifocals on her left lens to see if that has the same effect of taping over the dominant eye.

Re: Shooting Glasses bifocals
I went to my normal optical place and had a set of "computer" bifocal's made. My "reading" portion is now in the upper section of the glasses and my normal long distance is below. My front sight is in perfect focus (target blurred) but when moving, etc I simple raise my head slightly and everything is in focus as normal.

I put HiViz sights on my Glock. Green on the front, red on the back.
That way, I don't have to be able to focus on them to see that they are lined up.

Re: Shooting Glasses bifocals
I wear Progressive lenses now. Took a while to get used to, but I find it difficult to wear my bifocals now due to the lack of acuity at middling distances.

Re: Shooting Glasses bifocals
thanks and many ways to do it. but for me I think Charles has it that fits competition shooting best. Need the bifocal in the upper part of the lens so it is out of the way when looking normally etc, and when you bring up the gun and you tilt the head to aim, it comes into view. Use only on dominant eye. Will try the stick on versions again and this time will make the water even hotter on the glasses and the stick on to see if it will stay better.
