I always confuse DPS with Texas Rangers .... did Rangers ever (or still do) carry 1911 .45s? I think Rangers is basically a subset of DPS anyway, right? When I was dropping off my CHL instructor application paperwork at DPS main offices in Austin I walked through a little "museum" they have set up in the lobby and there were some 1911s under glass - but don't remember when or to whom it said they were issued. Cool little display if you're ever in that lobby - shows all the various guns, radios, cars, and other "equipment" used by DPS over the decades.texjames wrote:I was talking guns to a guy last night and our Sheirff Dept is switching to Glocks 40 cal and he gets them from GT Dist for $406 i believe he said.Thats with
Department letter. And yes Texas Troopers carry 357 sigs. They have had those since they got rid of the S&W 686 in 357 mag.

i guess their will be a day when all guns are made of plastic and no one will know they used to be made out of metal.

Take a trip up to Waco & visit the Texas Ranger Museum. You will go into 1911 overload with some of the beautiful guns that have been carried by Texas' finest.austinrealtor wrote:I always confuse DPS with Texas Rangers .... did Rangers ever (or still do) carry 1911 .45s? DPS issued Sig 220 .45s for a while then opted for the 357 SIG because of improved barrier penetration.texjames wrote:I was talking guns to a guy last night and our Sheirff Dept is switching to Glocks 40 cal and he gets them from GT Dist for $406 i believe he said.Thats with

I own two M&P 40s they are awesome guns both of them will digest any ammo fed them and the interchaingeable grip adapters make them user friendly for all hand sizes.

semantics, perhaps.... I know the M&P name has historical significance, but I really would have preferred a 'non-authority' type name for these guns. Not that S&W cares what I think - I don't own any of their products. The gun is specifically designed for military and police use

Texas Rangers are a division of the TX DPS. Kinda like the USMC is a dept. of the USN.austinrealtor wrote:I always confuse DPS with Texas Rangers .....
