I would like to get some opinions/ thoughts on both pistols. If you have any experience with them, please share.

Ok, I know it's unsolicited. But I have to let you know that Ruger has recently released a .40 cal version of the SR series. I have shot the SR9 and carry the SR9c and am very pleased.

There are lots of small details to consider, but the good news is that whichever one you choose, you'll have bought a fine gun that will serve you well.

Well, don't have the xd 40 sc but do have the 9mm XDsc and love it a bunch. Just one problem. Unfortunately, I let the wife test fire MY xdsc and she loved it and now has claimed it as hers! :totap: Oh well, Both guns are great and i have friends that have both but I'm partial, due to my limited use, like the xdsc a little better. my .02

I own a XD40sc and love it. I may be a bit partial, as it was the first pistol I had ever owned and shot, but regardless, I love the thing. Of all the pistols I have ever shot, it is the ONLY one that has never had a single failure of any kind. it eats any ammo you throw at it, and asks for more.

I've not shot the M&P.

I've shot both full size 9mm versions of XD and M&P and like them both, but the comfort of the grip on the M&P just WOWed me. Possibly the best and most comfortable grip this side of a professionally de-horned full-size 1911 grip.

I've held both XD and M&P compacts and also like M&P grip better in compact form.

Both guns shoot very well with some trigger tweaks and both have a good reputation for quality and durability (though not yet the indestructibility of a Glock)

As said both are good guns but I prefer the M&P. I find the M&P is more ergonomic and sits lower in your hand. Lower means it is easier to manage the recoil and faster back on target. The M&P is fully ambi the XD isn't. The grip safety on the XD can make it more difficult to clear double feed malfunctions. (Yes, XDs do get double feed issues!)

The only function of the XD that is not ambi is the slide release, and being a lefty, I've honestly never found to be a problem. As for double feeds and clearing them, I really dont see how the grip safety would effect that at all.

I also have a XD40SC with about 600 rounds through the pipe and it has yet to have any kind of failure. I love the thing it is flawless, acurrate and easy to conceal as a daily carry piece.

i have at different points in life owned both, the m&p40 is IMHO i far better gun ergonomically, and overall i just like the feel of it much better than the xds, but that is not to say the xd is bad, just that the m&p is better, if it were me in your shoes id save a bit more cash up and see if you can get yourself a m&p professional edition with a better trigger and fiber optic front sights

Both are good guns but I heavily prefer the XD lines over the M&P lines. The XDs feel a lot better in my hand. Best bet is always to try both if possible.

Which is better chocolate or vanilla? Well I like both. In this case as has already been mentioned they are both great guns and I would trust my life with either. Both feel good to grip, better then my Glocks but I would give a slight edge to the smith because I think it would be a little easier to conceal. If you just can't make up your mind close your eyes and do ene mene mine mo!!
