VA hospital ?
Just curious,I went to the VA hospital t get all registered this AM and didn't see any kind of signs for weapons,one for no smoking,but none for guns or knives.Would it be legal to carry there ?I wasn't carrying,as I left mine in the car as I wasn't sure,not sure if I would ever need one there.Crazy vet maybe? sj

VA Hospitals are Federal Property.
No Carry.
No way.
No how.
Nada.
VA Police SGT at the VA facility I go to told me that they do not have the right to search someone "coming in" to the facility, but once you are inside the doors, you have given "implied consent by entry" to a search and they can certanly do so. Get caught with a weapon inside a VA facility and you face a Federal Judge.
Not something I would want to do in this day and age.

I'd challenge that sergeant. VA Police are just like police everywhere: no unwarranted searches allowed without PC, Terry, or incident to arrest.DaveT wrote:VA Police SGT at the VA facility I go to told me that they do not have the right to search someone "coming in" to the facility, but once you are inside the doors, you have given "implied consent by entry" to a search and they can certanly do so.
What he may have intended to say but, didn't (because he was confused, lied, or intentionally "muddled" his authority) was that all visitors may be searched as a condition of entry. All visitors are free to refuse a search, and anyone refusing a search will be required to leave.
As for the other stuff... yeah, being found with a gun will get you an appointment with a federal magistrate.

Terry = Terry v. Ohio
Incident to arrest: when a person is being arrested, the officer may search them and their immediate belongings, and inventory them.
