Another eligibility question...

Post by dango70 »

I've been trolling these forums for a few weeks and realized that I may have created a problem for myself, as I have already sent my packet to Austin. I did not realize that juvenile "convictions" were necessary to list on the application. Obviously i have discovered this was a terrible mistake. I was under the understanding that the records were sealed at 18 and destroyed at 21.( not true I've learned)...I have requested my records from the court , however I think I'm fairly clear as to what the jest of it will be. I had 1 juvenile conviction and 3 adult convictions which all happened 20 - 25 years ago. These were all done as an idiotic teenager and it is simply just a part of the unchangeable past. The convictions are as follows : 16 yrs old - Poss. of a controlled substance ( juvenile probation completed). The 3 adult convictions were 3 DWI's all by the time I was 20 and all adult. ( 2 Texas, 1 Florida) I called Austin on the adult portion, and they said since none were felonies I would be ok.
So my question I suppose is two-fold :

1) Since I didn't list the juvenile conviction am I "dead" right here or will I have a chance to explain. This was Absolutely a honest misunderstanding of what I thought I could legally declare.

2) Will this new conviction be enough to disqualify.

This isn't something I necessarily wanted to have post here as it is not something I am not proud of at all. After the 3rd one I finally got it together and it's been smooth sailing ever since. Just a few traffic tickets and nothing else. Any comments or suggestions would be a great help.

I'm not sure about not declaring the juvenile offense, but I believe as long as there were no felony convictions you should be alright. You may have to resubmit your application if they send it back. I'm sure you will have quit a wait if you do have to resubmit.

if they send you a form back that request missing information be sure to use the fax number to reply its a lot quicker. I would also get the records comming to you just in case to limit the delay.
