J-frame or LCR as everyone has said. I went with the LCR since the trigger is so nice right out of the box and am very pleased with it.

S&W 342 (titanium cylinder), 38. Uncle Mike pocket holster. Trigger spring too tight, replaced it. Revolver too light for comfortable firing, but really easy to carry.

BTW, these are not toys. They are not fun to shoot but they will get the job done.

I looked at the S&W Bodyguard. The cylinder release I could get used to I guess since it sorta falls where the trigger once was. I did not like the laser on/off/pulse button location on top of the gun - you have to think about where it is and turn it on, then select the mode.

M&P340 here. I used to have a 642, and it's a good choice, but I traded it to another forum member in exchange for a 640 .357. I decided that I really liked the .357, but the 640 was just a tad heavy for pocket carry. So when I had the money put aside, I sprung for the scandium framed 340. I have no regrets whatsoever, and this one is a keeper. I often pocket carry it, whether or not I'm also carrying something else.

I've kept the stainless 640 for use as a kit gun too. That pistol has a really great trigger. I just need to get a decent holster for it.

The LCR has a better trigger than the smith's out of the box. I have a 442 no lock in .38 but my next one will be an LCR in .357

[Slight hijack]
What's the 357 version of the 442? I think I shy away for S&W pistols because they're just so many models.

The scandium models are expensive, as are the titanium guns of other manufacturers. OTH, S&W also has a polymer framed revolver, the Bodyguard, which costs much less than the scandium framed pistols.

If I'm not carrying my XD9sc in my IWB, I can always drop my Taurus 22mag in my pocket for my dog walking. Don't underestimate an 8 shot revolver in 22 mag.

With the rebate S&W is offering and if you know where to look, you can get one of the new scandium PD models for ~$760 (before tax), way below the $1200 MSRP.

Plus, at 11.4oz you can throw it in any pants pocket (even swimming trunks when you run out to wallmart for the wife  ) and it won't weight them down. And, with the adrenaline of a life threatening deadly force encounter, I doubt recoil and muzzle blast will matter much.

My M&P340 weighs a VAST 13.3 oz due to it's stainless cylinder.

And it doesn't drag my pants down either. I paid $789 for mine. Yes, that is more than $440-$500, but I also think that, for the most part, you get what you paid for.
