I'm not much in the mood to support the ammo manufacturers with their recent price increases. They haven't shown much support for us as consumers.

Not that I don't support buying ammo anytime. Actually it can be somewhat therapeutic. It seems that every time I log into one gun forum or another there is a post proclaiming national ammo day.

Oh come on...Its da principle of the thing!

At least go buy a box...

I've actually jumped the gun myself...I broke down after last Tuesday's debacle, went and aquired another case of .223 and .45 (yeah, I know)...

Going to have to start rotating the stock I suppose...Shoot a case, buy a case...

Just a terrible situation to be in I guess...I may need counselling...

Well, since I bought 100 rounds of 12 gauge yesterday and blasted through it all last night, I guess I'd better go get more.

On a serious note, some of the antis want to end our way of life by virtually stopping distribution of ammo.

Any excuse for me to buy ammo is great! I'll try to order materials from Midway to make more .45's :)

Where to I read about the impact this activity is having? I mean, where do I read about the message getting to the people we're trying to reach by spending our $ on ammo this week? I searched Google and found nothing but promotions of the event. I went to Winchester's and Federal's sites and my search turned up no mention of it at all.

I forgot right off the top of my head what the guys name who started this idea...

Its been about 8-9 years I think that its been going on...

I think its a great idea, and its one based more I believe on just keeping in mind that it does make a statement (if you were ever inclined to make one)...

I'd almost couple this with making November (National Buy a Gun Month)...At least one... ;-)

But thats just me...silly... ;-)

I buy ammo on a regular basis. I bought 650rds on Sunday and didn't even know it was ammo day/week. I was planning on buying another 1000rds later this week anyway. A firearm is just no good without it. Your shooting is no good if you don't use it.

The cost went up because of the increase in fuel prices. It cost us more to get the things you want manufactured and distributed. Don't blame ammo manufacturers.

I'd almost couple this with making November (National Buy a Gun Month).
I'm good with that one. It's a logical time of year. Planning for Christmas spending is in full swing, deer hunting season opening in Texas.

Let's all support Stevie in making November "National Buy a Gun Month"!

And how about making the second Friday in October "National Range Day"?

Every red-blooded American schedules a vacation day and goes out shootin'. Sighting in the rifles for hunting season, poppin' Coke cans on the back 40, or pokin' holes in paper at the local shootin' range. A prime NRA grass-roots opportunity with great media opportunity. Heck, maybe we could talk the IDPA and USPSA to play nice and schedule combined marketing efforts for a "New Shooters" introductory day around the country in conjunction with National Range Day. Shooting demos by the champs, introductory COFs for newbies only, coverage on ESPN2. Cross-sponsorship opportunities: Gibson Guitars, Hummer, NASCAR, Nike, John Deere, or Cingular Wireless (that one's for you, Roger)...you name it. The Biography Channel and A&E devote the day to the history of law enforcement, the history of the westward expansion in 19th-century America, the history of martial arts, documentaries on precision firearm manufacturing. ESPN2 profiles the Olympic shooting sports and their history. They show past shotgun championships. They show a slick montage of past IPSC/IDPA championships (yeah, I know; but we're more likely to get marketing benefit from the sport aspects of shooting rather than the tactical). They repeat a 30-minute profile of Julie Goloski several times throughout the day (implicit in that one: "Nice girls may be packin'. And woe be unto the bad guy who ignores that possibility").

Oh. I just took off my yellow-tinted shooting glasses. The world looks different now.

Sorry. Back to your regularly scheduled programming...

National Ammo Day came to us courtesy of Kim du Toit... as well as National Buy a Gun Day, which falls on April 15 every year.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me
