Taurus pt111 ?

I carry a pt 111 and every once and a while I'll unholster at the end of the day and the safety will be off has anyone else had this problem ? The only holster it happens with is my iwb pancake.

Often. It's very easy for it to slip to the fire position.

I figured it out it's when I'm pulling it out is when it drops the safety.

in my crossbreed, I never had that problem...
of course, i dont carry that any more, but when i did carry it...

I has that problem with my PT140, along with frequent light primer hits. I finally got a Glock 30 and solve the problems. Back to the PT140, I just quit carrying it with the safety on after awhile.

Nope, never had that problem when carrying my PT111 in either a Supertuck, or Fist OWB.

Sounds like you have a holster that doesn't fit the gun properly if it allows the gun enough movement to move the safety from the on to off position. Is this holster specific to the PT111 or is it a generic holster for compact size guns?

Happens to me in a CompTac 2 o'clock, and yes it's a PT-111 holster.

If your gun can slip up and down in the holster more than a quarter of an inch, it's easy for the upward portion of the motion to slide the safety off, due to its low angle at the base of the safety lever. If you have some sort of locking or snap holster, like a SERPA or a thumb-break, you should be able to remedy the problem without other effort.

The only other thing I can think of is persistent back-and-forth motion against your body, but I haven't experienced anything like that myself.

I've not had any safety problems with my PT140 but I carry in holsters I made custom to fit it, both IWB and OWB. There's no room in there for it to shift around.

My PT111 rides in a Kholster custom fit IWG rig. Ive tried to work the safety while it's in the the holster but it doesn't move.

I've been reading forums on Sigma and the PT series and this is the first time I've read of this problem. The safety lever has a low profile and hard enough to move when you want it to.

I sure would not carry the gun on my person with the safety off unless the chamber was empty. The gen3 PT models are SA when the chamber is loaded. 'without the safety engaged it must be under active control, as in aimed at something you want to hit.

I had a PT111 a while back and IIRC, it's striker fired with a striker blocking lever that is deactivated ONLY when the trigger is pulled through the full arc.

This makes the thumb safety nothing more than a useless feature added to appease lawyers. There is NO practical reason for carrying this gun with the thumb safety on....it is akin to hanging a thumb safety on the side of a Glock...why bother.

Humanphibian has a point. The striker block is there to prevent the cocked striker from moving until the trigger pushes off the block at the last possible instant. And only the trigger can do that.

I just like the visual effect of the outside safety. It is another reminder that this gun is loaded.

The PT111 is a DA/SA pistol. As such, the KISS principle dictates carrying it off safe, as the first press would be a heavier DA pull. The military is changing its ways to reflect this with the M9, as are other some LE agencies that carry pistols with such an action. Only time I would consider an active safety is on a 1911 style pistol, or similar SAO design.
